This about sums it up....
MAMMOTH BATTLESHIP SUB MAKES RESIDENTS OF STEELTOWN PROUD Triangle Bar and Grill Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Steel City, once had huge smokestacks eleva...ting high above the rolling hills, billowing smoke and flames that gave the city its identity. Talk to anyone from Pittsburgh and most will tell you that they rarely have ever met someone that is not proud to be from here. Pittsburghers are known for their blue-collar work ethic, resiliency, and being extremely personable and kind. One of the many things that Pittsburghers are proud of is their sandwiches. Sandwiches and hoagies/subs have been popular since the Steel Mill era. Steel workers and a lot of blue-collar workers did not have much time for a sit-down meal. This made a sandwich a versatile dining option because it was easy to eat on the go, but also gives one the ability to choose whichever toppings they want. Popular destinations for signature sandwiches in Pittsburgh are Primanti Brothers, Peppi’s, and the Oyster Bar to name a few. The one that sticks out most due to its sheer size is at Triangle Bar and Grill in Swissvale. Let us look at why the Triangle Bar and Grill received national recognition by Thrillist American Media Company as one of the Top 33 Best Sandwich Shops in America. First, let us talk about the bread. The Triangle Bar bakes its own bread. This assures that the bread is fresh for every sandwich that is served. They typically bake around 800 loaves of bread a day. You can have the best ingredients in the world, but if the bread is subpar, the sandwich will suffer and not reach its full potential. The Battleship (captioned) If you’re looking for a wow factor in a sandwich, this is it! It is a monster, stretching 27 long! It is made with love using fresh, high quality ingredients. The base for a Battleship is provolone, ham, salami, lettuce, tomato, and onion, and topped with oil and vinegar, oregano, salt, and pepper. The oregano gives a distinct burst of flavor after every bite. In my opinion, what separates the Triangle Bar is the versatility of their sandwiches which do not sacrifice quality for quantity. Sandwich options There are also two other size options for their subs. The Destroyer is around 12, and the Torpedo is around 6. Their specialty sandwiches include Roast Beef, Corn Beef, Turkey, Pastrami, Ham, Capicola, Tuna Salad, and Chicken Salad. You can also pick two from the list of meats, Roast Beef, Corn Beef, Turkey, Pastrami, Ham, Capicola, and create your own sandwich. The amount of meat they put on the sandwich is impressive. How many times have you gotten a sandwich that is mostly bread? Not here. You will be pleasantly surprised with how much meat is on these sandwiches! Other menu items Triangle Bar also has hot sandwiches including Cheesesteak, Grilled Chicken, and Fried Bologna. Their sausage and meatball sandwiches are also big sellers. Want a side with your sandwich? Try their soup, chili, Macaroni Salad, Potato Salad, or coleslaw. They also have a full-service bar with numerous TVs if you want to catch a Steelers, Penguins, or Pirates Game. My final take I have been to numerous places in my travels that are known for signature sandwiches. Do not get me wrong, they are normally exceptionally good. But seldom do I come across a sandwich which truly blows my mind. The Triangle Bar has accomplished this feat. Not only am I captivated with the sheer size, but also the quality and taste as well. I cannot say enough good things about owner Tom Crombie. His passion for serving the community delicious food and massive portions truly makes the Triangle Bar and Grill a Pittsburgh staple. They understand the importance of being active in the community by supporting local charities, schools, and neighborhood programs. If you have not been to the Triangle Bar and tried one of their famous sandwiches, you need to add it to your list. You will then see why this is one of the most unique sandwich joints in America. Score 1. Taste and Flavor 5/5 2. Portion Size 5/5 3. Affordability 4/5 4. Ambience 3/5 To check out more amazing restaurants in the Pittsburgh area, read my first book, The Hidden Restaurant Gems of Pittsburgh: An Insider’s Guide. Www.bitly.com/hiddengemsofpittsburgh
