"Motherhood is about raising-and celebrating-the child you have, not the child you thought you would have. It's about understanding that he is exactly the person he is supposed to be. And that, if you're lucky, he just might be the teacher who turns you into the person you are supposed to be." ~The Water Giver

My grandmother once gave me a tip: In difficult times, you move forward in small steps. Do what you have to do, but little by little. Don't think about the futu...re, or what may happen tomorrow. Wash the dishes. Remove the dust. Write a letter. Make a soup. You see? You are advancing step by step. Take a step and stop. Rest a little. Praise yourself. Take another step. Then another. You won't notice, but your steps will grow more and more. And the time will come when you can think about the future without crying. - Elena Mikhalkova (Image of Tasha Tudor, American Illustrator 1915-2008) See more

With Thanksgiving heading towards us in the US, let's acknowledge how hard it can be to feel grateful. Gratitude and grief don’t cancel each other out, they ex...ist side by side. In this culture, we tend to use gratitude as a bit of an admonition, right: "Other people have it worse! Be grateful for what you’ve got!" Gratitude gets presented to grieving folks as a cure for their ills. But what if we look to the things we’re thankful for, not as medicine, but as companions? What if we took the theme of gratitude, and saw it as a companion, not a commandment? There are so many things in this life to be thankful for. I am so glad that this blanket hides me completely on the couch, exactly where I am. Thank you, blanket. I am so glad for the off button on my phone, and the silent-mode option. Thank you, technology, for creating this bubble of peace and silence around me. As you think about your own Thanksgiving plans, are there ways to say thank you, not to what you are asked to live, but to whatever allows you to breathe, to survive, to rest? Can you look for more of those things? They won’t fix anything, but they make things a little more gentle on you. That’s one way of acknowledging the season. What about you? Let us know in the comments about anything that makes this time of year a little gentler, a little kinder for yourself.

A father said to his daughter You have graduated with honors, here is a car I bought many years ago. It is pretty old now. But before I give it to you, take it... to the used car lot downtown and tell them I want to sell it and see how much they offer you for it. The daughter went to the used car lot, returned to her father and said, They offered me $1,000 because the said it looks pretty worn out. The father said, now Take it to the pawn shop. The daughter went to the pawn shop, returned to her father and said,The pawn shop offered only $100 because it is an old car. The father asked his daughter to go to a car club now and show them the car. The daughter then took the car to the club, returned and told her father, Some people in the club offered $100,000 for it because it’s a Nissan Skyline R34, it's an iconic car and sought by many collectors Now the father said this to his daughter, The right place values you the right way, If you are not valued, do not be angry, it means you are in the wrong place. Those who know your value are those who appreciate you......Never stay in a place where no one sees your value. Never!

On this episode of Magination Press Story Time, co-author Rhona Silverbush reads Bye-Bye!, a story written for toddlers to help them deal with anxious feelings about separation and reassure them that mommies and daddies come back.
