It has been a while since we posted anything. But we have good reason: we have been too busy catering weddings and rehearsal dinners every weekend for the past two months! For example, check out this beautiful backyard wedding we catered last month. For this, we actually coordinated all the rentals too (tent, furniture, china, linenthe works). This event kept us busy for weeks leading up to it -- but, we had a great team, we had fun, and it was gorgeous

Full Circle! Ten years ago, I started Upohar as a catering business to provide a path to economic self-sufficiency to people with significant barriers to getting a job. Ten years later, we are back to full-time catering again. Much has changed in 10 years. But Upohar's mission has not. We continue to offer the gift of food and the gift of opportunity. ... In 2011, Upohar's gift of opportunity was an open hiring policy, and jobs paying living wages in the food industry. It made sense in 2011, after the Great Recession. In 2021, Upohar’s gift of opportunity is for our supply chain, for my fellow business owners in the food industry. Last year was hard on us all! So Upohar’s world kitchen will continue to offer the gift of global cuisines, this time by sourcing from local small and minority-owned food businesses. As we serve our catering clients authentic, made-from-scratch food prepared by the experts in their culinary traditions, we will also be sharing our business opportunities with our vendor-partners. Funny how things work out. This is what I had thought I’d be doing 10 years ago: business development for my chefs, whom I considered my business partners. This summer, we offered skewers from all over the world! There were meals and appetizers, featuring skewers from Syrian, Indian, Filipino, South African and Thai. It was a hit! I had no idea people loved skewers this much Well, we’ll keep them as an option on our party platter selection. ... But summer is coming to a close.
