Today marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and is also the date the United Nations General Assembly designated as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. We honor the memory of the victims and commemorate the end of the tragedies of the Holocaust, and join in solidarity in the work of helping to end hate, discrimination, and marginalization in all its forms.

Every Friday, Mrs. Benglian's concert choir holds an "Open Mic", where students are welcome to perform various pieces that they've been working on. This past week, Upper Darby High School senior Rachel Hauben shared her poem, "A House Reunited", which we are proud to now share with our Upper Darby community! November is National Native American Heritage Month, which pays tribute to the rich history and culture of the Native American tribes. In 1986, President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation, at the request of the U.S. Congress, declaring the week of November 23rd through 30th as American Indian Heritage Week to recognize Native Americans as the first inhabitants, explorers and settlers of the lands that would become the United States. In 1990, as requested by the U.S. Congres...s, President George H.W. Bush issued a proclamation making November National American Indian Heritage Month to honor all the past, present and continuing contributions Native Americans have made to the country. In 2009, during President Barack H. Obama’s first term in office, November became National Native American Heritage Month. Presidents Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama and Trump have issued annual proclamations to designate November as the month to recognize Native Americans! To kick off our district's celebration of this month, Walter M. Senkow Elementary School's librarian, Ms. Rojas, developed a virtual bookshelf for teachers and students to access literature that celebrates Native Americanculture!
