Upper Providence Township Police officers are making final preparations by making sure the turkeys, side dishes, trimmings and desserts are ready to go out to se...veral food insecure families in the Township. Every year our officers donate money to buy complete meals for our residents who are feeling the financial pinch and wouldn't otherwise be able to put a Thanksgiving dinner on the table. This year we are hosting 6 families. Many thanks to our Administrative Assistant Rose Haley for hunting down bargains and doing all of the shopping. You guys and gals make me proud everyday. I thank you all for your dedication and commitment to our community and its an honor to be your Chief! See more

On behalf of the Upper Providence Township Police Department, I would like to thank Dr David A Thomas (Main Line Health) for his commitment and dedication to the department and residents of Upper Providence Township. Over the years, Dr Thomas was instrumental in securing funding to purchase Automated External Defibrillators for our patrol vehicles. Our officers utilize the defibrillators when responding to cardiac emergencies in the Township. In addition, Dr Thomas volunteere...d his time and provided Stroke Training and awareness to our officers. The training was aimed at helping officers identify signs and symptoms of a stroke and importance of getting these individuals to a stroke center as soon as possible. Our ability to identify and relay observations to paramedics increases the patients opportunity for a favorable outcome. In addition, Dr Thomas provided me with valuable insight and safety precautions in dealing with COVID. The safety precautions were incorporated into our daily measures to reduce the chance of contracting or transmitting COVID-19. Even during the height of the pandemic, Dr Thomas remained in contact with us to make sure the needs of our officers and our residents were being met. Again, many thanks to Dr Thomas for all of your contributions to the Township over the years. See more

On behalf of the Upper Providence Township Police Officers and staff I would like to thank the Scutzlas family for providing us with lunch today. The food was absolutely delicious and enjoyed by all. I also thank you for taking the time to send a card containing such kind words of encouragement and support. Law enforcement officers are being vilified by the public on a daily basis for an unspeakable act committed by a few officers in the Minneapolis Police Department. Please know and understand that your support and kind words uplifted the spirits of my officers.

This afternoons brief but powerful storm caused significant damage to homes and property throughout Upper Providence Township. In addition, we are still dealing with fallen trees, wires, transformers and utility poles that have caused road closures and power outages township wide. The storm also caused a power outage at the Township building and as a result, all of our phones are down. I have asked my officers to systematically check all roadways in the Township and compile a... list of hazards that need to be addressed by the highway department. Our highway department is out working hard to make the roadways passable. If you need to report a hazard, please call 911 and an officer will respond. I feel compelled to tell you about an encounter I had this afternoon. In the height of the storm, I returned to the police station to pick up cones and caution tape. When I arrived, the most kind, charismatic woman of color by the name of Tonya Johns approached me and asked if there was anything she could do to help the police. Keep in mind, its absolutely pouring outside and she left the safety of her residence in Upper Providence to see if she could assist the police with cleanup efforts due to the storm. Tonya also said she wanted me to have her number in light of all the civil unrest and damage that is going on daily, and she wanted me to know she was willing to stand by our side and help us clean up her community. My friends, lets be honest, I completely understand the anger and hatred many people have towards the police. You have every right to be angry with our profession. Social injustices have and continue to occur but Tonya had nothing but kind words and praise for the police. Tonya, if you are reading this post, please understand that your compassion and thoughtfulness brought me such a ray of brightness that no storm cloud could darken my spirits today. On behalf of my entire department, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Think of what our world would be like if law enforcement and society had more Tonya Johns in it. Thank you again, and please know we are here for everyone. See more

The Upper Providence Township Police Department placed into service 17 brand new Streamlight SL-20L flashlights, replacing our old Streamlight SL-20X flashlights that are over 20 years-old, and incorporated outdated halogen incandescent lamp technology. By updating to LED technology, we increased our flashlight output capacity by 100% in candlepower, 75% in lumens, and increased run time to 2hrs. This flashlight also delivers an incredible down range beam, giving our police... officers a tactical & safety advantage in identifying a potential threat, and features a strobe-light mode crucial to directing traffic at night time. This was all made possible through through the Vest-A-Cop Safety Equipment Grant Program, and by the generous in-kind donation by Upper Providence Township residents Steve & Karen Tonsa, owners of Tonsa Fence, LLC. From the Officers of the Upper Providence Township Police Department, we thank you!!
