Firefighter and Trustee, Christopher Evans, 43, has been volunteering since he was a teenager. I have always been drawn to giving back and contributing to some...thing bigger than just me to help my community. In the fire service for 20 years, Christopher has volunteered with Upper Macungie Township Station 56 for two years now. The greatest benefit I have received from volunteering is knowing that every emergency we respond to, we are impacting someone's life in some of their worst possible moments, said Christopher. I also enjoy the comradery and the second family atmosphere. Any time a volunteer can donate is beneficial to the fire company as well. Every little bit of time can help, he said. You can make a difference in someone's life while contributing to society, and forging new friendships. If you are interested in volunteering with UMT Fire Department, visit https://umtfire.com/.
Last night's weekly training reviewed search techniques and vertical ventilation at our new training facility.
Around 4 o' clock stations 8,51, and 56 were dispatched for a structure fire. Additional was given from Lehigh County Radio that a shed was on fire and was close to the house. 5611 assisted with fire suppression and overhaul on the 2nd floor and attic of the house. Additional stations were called for manpower.
It is that time of year again. If you have a hydrant near your house. Please clear the snow around it. These few minutes it takes to clear a hydrant can help save somebody's life.
Tomorrow is the big day! Santa will be visiting neighborhoods around Station 56 and bringing a special treat for all the boys and girls who come out to say hello. Of course we do have to have some changes this year, so Santa will be staying on his sleigh and not getting down for photos or personal interactions. He will stay on his sleigh and will not be wearing a mask. Santa's elves will be wearing masks and will hand out Santa's presents to the kids. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

The main bulk of the fire was held in place by the building's sprinkler system. Additional stations were called for manpower and additional resources.
