The ladies of the Upsilon Delta chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. would like to take the time to congratulate the 98th class of the Wheel and Chain. Wheel and Chain was founded in 1924 to recognize Dickinson women who demonstrate leadership skills and personal character who are actively involved on campus and in the local community. Each spring ten new juniors are tapped, or inducted, into the society on the steps of our main administrative building, Old West. W...e would like to give a special shoutout to Sorors Inaya Carrington (F’20) and Daisheau Player (F’20) for this historic occasion. In addition, we extend our congratulations to Soror Daisheau Player for being elected as Student Body President of Dickinson College! She is the 2nd Black woman in Dickinson’s history to have this position. Last but certainly not least, another Soror was presented an award at the Wheel and Chain tapping ceremony. The Wheel & Chain Leadership Award is presented to an outstanding rising junior who exemplifies the traits of a great leader. We are proud to announce that Soror Kalaria Obasi (S’21) was a recipient of this award! 14 years ago, today, the Upsilon Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. became the first black Greek-letter organization at Dickinson College. We are happy to have 26 women that have been initiated through our chapter. Today, we celebrate the legacy of sisterhood, scholarship, service, social and political change. We would also acknowledge the tirelessness of everyone that has been a part of the chapter. As we continue to be leaders on campus, students with the highest GPAs on the yard, accomplished professionals in a number of fields, and role models to black and brown women like ourselves, we hope to see another 14+ years!
