VALarena in North Apollo plan to reopen, but owners want to sell and keep it a roller rink https://triblive.com//valarena-in-north-apollo-plan-to-re/ (Via TribLive)

Update: The rink number (724-478-3065) is still operational but all calls are forwarded to an answering machine at our home office. The rink will remain closed for the summer. During this idle time, we are making changes and improvements inside and outside in preparation to try to open in the fall. It will depend on the virus situation and government / health department requirements.

Hello everyone Debra and I hope that this email finds you healthy and in good spirits. The last two months have been a challenge for all of us but summer is approaching and hopefully more warm temperatures and sunshine will provide us more opportunity to get out of the house and visit family and friends. The rink is a quiet place these days, which is frustrating and sad, at times. I never thought I’d say that I truly miss the Friday night crowd! Well, sometimes. ... Seriously, we miss the interaction with all our customers teaching little ones to skate (and some older ones also), birthday parties, snack bar feeding frenzies, and roller hockey. Roller skating is a very social sport, which, under these current circumstances, makes it very hard to feel confident that we can safely open the doors soon. We have been attending weekly Zoom video meetings with the RSA (Roller Skating Association) to understand the challenges and risks associated with opening. We will continue to meet with this national audience to work on a plan and learn what best practices to adopt from the rinks that are currently opening up in other states. At this point in time, we don’t see our doors opening anytime soon for a couple reasons: 1) roller skating rinks, like other sports, are not included in PA’s short term opening plans, and 2) we are approaching the summer months when business is extremely slow under normal circumstances. Starting this month, we are making some changes to conserve funds through the summer months. The web site (www.valarena.com) will be going down but we will continue to use the Facebook pages for a social presence. The rink’s business phone (724-478-3065) will not accept messages and will be shut off after June 30th and we will post a new number on FB at that time. The email ([email protected]) will continue as usual. We will keep you informed on the status of things via Facebook as our business plans get further defined. Take care, stay safe and healthy. Fred & Debra

We need to clear out the skate inventory. All skates must go. The skates are posted on the rink's web site. You can email the rink if you would like to purchase the skates. www.valarena.com/skateinventory.pdf

If you or your child left a coat at the rink this winter, please send an email ([email protected]) describing the coat and if we have it, we will make arrangements for you to pick it up. Unclaimed coats will be donated to Good Will when the store reopens.
