Happy Friday! I thought I’d share a little message that I sent to our virtual support program families today. I love our kiddos, families, and amazing team that always go above and beyond for our kiddos! See below: Our kids have successfully completed their first week of virtual learning! Although they’ve adjusted impressively to virtual learning, I am compelled to share with you how heartbreaking it is to see their struggles. These struggles are NOT because they’re not ...understanding the material or because our teachers, or their school teachers, are not providing adequate support. Their struggles stem from the demands surrounding virtual learning. While they are given breaks between activities and opportunities to move about, being in front of a screen ALL DAY LONG is exhausting to them, and understandably so! Most of the kids have expressed their dislike for virtual learning; some attempt to dose off in the middle of lessons, some simply say they don’t want to participate, and they ALL say they want to do real learning. The children miss school and all that comes with it. I see that as a reassuring sign of how much they truly love to learn. In closing, to see the smiles and sense of relief when their day is finally over and they get to freely play and interact with their peers is priceless; and as an educator, very fulfilling. Now, more than ever, these kiddos need that extra hug, high five, and all the support you and us can give them! No matter what assignments they completed or didn’t complete, what confused them, what they didn’t like, please remind them how proud you are of them! We will all get through this together. We will continue to make adjustments as virtual learning continues to evolve and do our best to ensure your children have a successful experience during these unprecedented times. ....... Emily
