President's Message - September 17th, 2020 Dear Member, and Gruss Gott! Last evening, I met with select Board Members which comprise of our Finance Team. We ...reviewed the entire VE expenditures for the past several months, the current billings, expenses, projected operating costs for 2020. We have experienced moderate success with the Saturday Biergartens, and our first Friday Take Out Dinner was also encouraging. {speaking only of the financial aspect, the food was great} We projected our income for the remaining 5-6 weeks of Biergartens in September and October and our Friday Take Out Dinners. I will get back to finance and revenue shortly. The most critical effort we faced initially was getting the pool operational. This enabled Camp Rad to operate at about 60% of its normal scale due to covid restrictions. The effort to overcome the pool physical preparation, and operational issues was daunting. There were several major setbacks which I previously reported, and our Pool Chairman, Dan Ryan and committed members got us operational. This covered our ongoing expenses {insurance, utilities, staff} and our summer tax billing. This past Saturday, would have been the VE BuxMont Oktoberfest. Recently, we moved this event from Sunday to Saturday, and we expanded our event and marketing to include surrounding Montgomery and Bucks County communities. This proved to be a tremendous success, and our revenues increased dramatically as a result. We cancelled Oktoberfest back in August. Due to the covid restrictions, limitation of 250 people for an event, we have not pursued advertising to surrounding communities. We have relied upon our membership, their friends, neighbors, and families for patronage and support for the Biergartens. The reason we were conservative was to control the covid protocols. The risk of having groups of non-members, although friends of VE, not respecting the covid protocols, and a potential violation from the State Inspectors, was too threatening. Again, we must rely upon our members to patronize and enjoy our club, its ambiance, the food and beverages, the entertainment, and Gemutlichkeit. I mentioned our finance meeting last evening, and our income projection for the remaining year 2020. The membership renewals have been mailed to you all for 2021. We have had immediate response, and many donations above and beyond our membership dues have been received. This is very encouraging. These dues are our leading source of revenue for the year 2020, and early 2021. Our major real estate tax billing is next month. Oktoberfest typically covers this cost. There was no Oktoberfest financial gain this year. This letter is to appeal to you to support the Biergartens, the Take Out Dinners and pay your dues and extend your giving if you have the income or financial resources. We pray for a resolution to the covid virus, and the return to normality. Stay safe. Be vigilant with your covid protocols, and support your Club, both financially and with your time. Alles Gute!
