Warren Garden Club 10.11.2020

We have arrived at the middle of August. Now is a good time to evaluate what worked in the garden and what was less than successful. What plants need to be replaced next year and what plants do you want to add to your collection. Take time to write these things down. You may not remember when next spring comes.

July 4th is over for 2020. My roses are blooming well as are the containers. The present record breaking temperatures put our flowers as well as the gardeners at risk. Water well and water in the morning when it is cooler. Our roses need attention now. Remember roses are always hungry and always thirsty. I have started watering well each day. Make a little saucer in the soil a few inches from the main stem to catch the water so it doesn’t run all over. Always fertilize according to package directions. I use a systemic fertilizer that also controls disease. I only feed May first, June 15th and August first. Fertilizers are all different. Read the directions.

We have a very hot and humid July coming up. Keep your flowers watered, weeded and fertilized. Complete your garden tasks early in the morning. July is the month when our flowers are at their best. Enjoy them.

Warren Garden Club Municipal Gardens June is the time when Warren Garden Club plans and plants Warren’s Municipal gardens. As visitors and citizens of Warren go about their business at the post office, the bank and other daily errands our beautiful city is decorated with containers and borders of summer flowers. On June 1-3 Gardens of Warren were planted by Olivia Sechriest, Civic Beautification Chair, and her committee. Each garden was carefully planned as to color and func...tion not to mention attention to water and sunlight requirements. Each garden also has its own separate chairman and committee who do their own planning. The individual garden chairpersons are Crescent Park, Beverly Tipton, Municipal Garden, Olivia Sechriest, General Joseph Warren Park, Pat Christy, Warren General Hospital, Josie, Gerardi and Celeron Park, Marianne Fernstrom. On the appointed day the committee gets together to plant the flowers. A summer weeding and watering schedule is drawn up so that each garden gets the proper amount of summer maintenance as well as autumn cleanup. Our lovely summers are all too short. Enjoy the next 4 wonderful months and enjoy the flowers. In the picture are Marianne Fernstrom and Olivia Sechriest
