Madeleine L’Engle’s personal library will be auctioned this month by New England Book Auctions. Over 180 boxes of books have been inventoried for sale. They will be sold in lots on April 8, 13, 20, 22, and 27, but bidding opens early
Looks like we might be in for a rainy weekend - stop by your local Little Free Library today and stock up on free books to keep you company!
What a beautiful day for a walk! A friend and I are going to see how many Little Free Libraries we can visit during an extended walk. How many have you visited in one day? Sunset isn't until 6:01 p.m. tonight (yes, spring is on the way), and temps are predicted to go up to the high 50s - enjoy the day! https://littlefreelibrary.org/ourmap/
Snow flurries won’t stop the start of the Little Free Library Scavenger Hunt, starting this morning! So many books! (And fun games, and at some places a few treats, for kids of all ages.)
Tomorrow - Saturday, March 6th - there will be a bonus box of donated mysteries and a bonus box of donated children's books out by the Little Free Library!
Here's a peek at all the donations the Little Free Library has received over the last few weeks (not counting those filling the box!) once I am done marking them with my new LFL stamp, I'll start varying the mix in the blue box. FYI - you can still keep the book you take from the box, or gift it to someone else; the stamp is just a reminder for folks as to Little Free Libraries' mission around the world!
Thanks to some wonderful unknown neighbors, there are many many children's books to go in the Little Free Library - here are just a few that you can find in the blue box!
"Reading as Resistance is a mother-daughter project. We are raising money to supply Little Free Libraries with anti-racist books to help support folks in their self-education, awareness and reflections." @LVreadingasresistance
Over the space of 24 hours, the very full Little Free Library was practically emptied out! I hope this means many people of all ages came by for books (and not that someone is planning on selling them online!). Good news is that I have boxes of donated books, so will fill up the Little Free Library thus morning.
You don't need a library card to take books out of the Washington Street Little Free Library! Having said that, everyone should have a library card! Library cards are free, and another doorway to a world of books and services - all free! Don't miss out on your chance for free access to ebooks, audiobooks, DVDs, digital and paper magazines and newspapers, hardcovers, paperbacks, computer and internet access, databases, and so much more!
Ant invasion! If you recently stopped by the Little Free Library, you might have noticed that an ant colony was attempting a takeover of the blue box that holds so many wonderful books. The good news is that the colony has been evicted! While one or two ants may not have gotten the message (we're working on that) we are confident that the books have seized the high ground, and will be ant free if you choose to take them home.
Yay! Starting small as we get things off the ground. On Thursday, we were able to use our first donations to get two anti-racist books into a local Little Free ...Library. Our first book selections were Let's Talk About Race by Julius Lester (picture book, ages 4+) and Brown Girl Dreaming (novel, ages 10+) by Jacqueline Woodson. I'll drop book descriptions in the comments. I am currently reading Brown Girl Dreaming myself and enjoying it. See more
Rainy days are great days to curl up with a good book - and the Washington Street Little Free Library has an abundance of books for all ages and interests!
Took a look in the Little Free Library and saw that some kind person had been by and organized and straightened up the books in the box! They may even have added a few new ones. Thank you neighbor, whoever you are!
Much to my surprise (and no small measure of unhappiness), the Little Free Library is closed this morning - by the time I'd gotten out of the shower, this was happening! (Not at all thankful for PP&L, or their lack of adequate advance notice)

Went out to the box this morning and found a stack of just donated picture books! Thank you, neighbor! And thank you to those who have brought by and donated more mysteries, thrillers, literary fiction, self-help, funny, and hard-to define
This has come up in library (and book) circles before, but it is an excellent reminder in these times. Windows and Mirrors (reading about other people's experiences and seeing yourself reflected in books) should be more than reading about trauma and history.
