Wayne Memorial Hospital Environmental Services has two new employees, germ-killing robots that use ultraviolet light-C or UVC. This light has a short wavelength that can destroy the germ’s ability to reproduce. Wayne Memorial also has ultraviolet light in its air-handling system for similar reasons, but the robots are the big guys who can sweep patient rooms, operating rooms, the Emergency Department, intensive care units and more. They kill bacteria and spores like Clos...tridioides difficile, also known as C. diff. Many hospitals deploy similar machines; Wayne Memorial’s are from Tru-DSmartUVC. Does UVC work on COVID-19? According to the Food & Drug Administration, UVC radiation may be effective in inactivating the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is the virus that causes the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), but more data is needed about the wavelength, dose, and duration of UVC radiation required to inactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus." Looks promising! In this video, Tru-D staff are training WMH housekeepers on use of the robot. See more

(Honesdale, October 27, 2020)As of Friday, October 30th, Wayne Memorial Hospital’s primary COVID-19 testing site for outpatients will be at the drive-through for the former Wayne Health Pharmacy at the Stourbridge Complex, Maple Avenue and Route 6, Honesdale. Its previous main testing site at the Wayne County Fairgrounds closed in mid-October because of the expected onset of inclement weather. Similar to our Fairgrounds site, the drive-through presents a convenient, safe... and accessible location for staff and patients, said James Hockenbury, director Ancillary Services. The collection process will be slightly different at the drive-through. Patients will be given an easy-to-use, nasal-swab, self-collection kit. Laboratory Services Manager John Romano says the kit will be delivered to the vehicle. Phlebotomists at the former pharmacy will be able to guide those patients needing assistance. Patients can communicate their questions via an on-site camera. A healthcare provider’s prescription and insurance information is required for testing. Testing will be available Monday Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm. As an alternate site, testing will still be available at the hospital. For more information about COVID-19, visit cdc.gov or wmh.org. Seven years after Rachel’s Challenge was launched in our community, it’s still going strong! Go Orange Day 2020 was yesterday, Thursday, October 22nd, and the orange color of Rachel’s Challengenow called Challenge Acceptedwas ablaze throughout Wayne Memorial Hospital and Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers. The program’s messageto be kind to everyone you meet, pass it onhails from the diaries of Rachel Joy Scott, the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999. WMH’s Community Relations Department hung orange ribbons around the hospital campus and Wallenpaupack students created yard signs to remind and encourageIf you never try, you’ll never know. Rachel’s anti-bullying, treat others as you would yourself message, lives on!

Anne Marie Carachilo, Nurse Aide/3West, was so surprised to be chosen October Employee of the Month that she broke out in tears and CEO David Hoff said he might cry, too. Jim Pettinato, RN, director Patient Care Services came to the rescue with a box of tissues. Carachilo, a mother of three and grandmother of one from Carbondale, has been with Wayne Memorial nine years. Fellow Nurse Aide Barb Richter nominated Anne Marie, but close to 20 people signed the form with gushing praise of Anne Marie as a team player who never complains, one of the BEST, very dependable, personifies ‘above and beyond,’ gets along well with everyone. RN/Clinical Coordinator Patricia Tish Kuller wrote we couldn’t do what we do without her. She’s a ROCK STAR! Congratulations Anne Marie!

Wayne Memorial to Offer Help with new Health Insurance Marketplace #healthcaremarketplace #pennie #affordablehealthcare Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers’ Outreach & Enrollment office stands ready to help consumers find health insurance when a state-based system called pennie.com replaces the federal government’s healthcare.gov November 1st. Staff formerly referred to as Coordinators will be known instead as Exchange Assisters who have trained and registered with th...e PA Insurance Department. Health insurance plans on pennie.com will offer a variety of coverage and payment options, stated Laura Resti, assister, Outreach and Enrollment, WMCHC. We encourage those needing our help finding out what’s new and which is the right plan for them to contact us as soon as possible to make a telephone appointment. Resti went on to explain that open enrollment begins November 1, 2020 and is extended until January 15, 2021, an additional 4 weeks from previous years under healthcare.gov. However, in order to have coverage effective January 1, 2021, eligible consumers must have coverage selected and first payment made by December 15, 2020. Outreach and Enrollment services remain free of charge to everyone, not just patients of WMCHC physician practices. However, one notable change for this year is the increase in telephone appointment availability due to safety restrictions brought on by COVID-19. All appointments must be scheduled in advance by calling 570-251-6569 or 570-251-6554. Only a limited number of in-person appointments will be offered. Masking is required and precautions such as Plexiglas barriers are in place. We’re still here to help, added Resti. We just have a few new obstacles to overcome this year. For more information, call either 570-251-6554 or 570-251-6569 or visit wmchc.net and search Outreach and Enrollment. See more
