Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for There’s only one place where lasting comfort can be found in the arms of the one who as a babe laid his head in the manger of Bethlehem. In our lesson for today, the Hebrew people have spent forty years wandering in the Sinai desert after escaping slavery in Egypt. They are now standing on the borders of Canaan, the Promised Land. Moses gives the people instructions for how they are to deal with this new phase of their existence as a people. These instructions could be directed at us.
