Well Born Baby 26.12.2020

Welcome to two new Well Born Babies last week!! Our first mama had her due date come and go but waited patiently. She was planning on an unmedicated delivery but when contractions started on Monday, quickly realized that wasn’t for her. And that’s completely okay! Better to know ones self and be confident to make that decision. No one knows what labor is like for each individual except the person going through it. Once comfy with her epidural, she was able to rest and got to ...meet her baby boy later on Tuesday! She did a fabulous job and baby boy is absolutely adorable! Our second mama was very early but had been monitoring her blood pressure at home because of a family member’s experience with preeclampsia. After a couple high readings, she went in Monday evening for monitoring and an Induction was decided upon. It took a little to get things moving, but by Wednesday her contractions were nice an active. A big switch from her naturally planned birth center delivery, but mom did wonderful at coping, dad was super helpful, and she was able to use a side lying semi-prone position (mountain climber) to help rest and relax in between. They welcomed their baby girl Wednesday afternoon and she too is absolutely adorable! Congratulations to both our families and thanks to Lifecycle WomanCare and the nurses at Bryn Mawr Hospital Labor and Delivery for their care and support of these two wonderful families!

We had a freaky Friday birthday party!! Happy Birthday to a new Well Born Baby Girl! Mama was so anxious, for weeks, for labor. Her due date came and went but she hung in there staying positive! The night after a pep talk about letting her baby pick the birthday, contractions began. She and her husband went in just after midnight and she was 5cm! Unfortunately she had lots of nausea and vomiting, making her dehydrated. Iv fluids really helped and she was even able to get a so...lid nap in. After napping, we got back up and active. While using the birthing stool, a nice strong contraction caused her water to break amd things really picked up from there. She was really uncomfortable and after checking, the midwife suggested starting to push. She used a variety of positions, ultimately delivering on the birthing stool like she hoped. Her partner sat behind her, supporting and watching his baby crown in the mirror. Baby girl was soon in their arms and after moving the bed, was snuggled in. Once mama was ready, she helped baby girl into position amd baby latched like a pro! Congratulations to this wonderful news family and thanks to our great nurses and midwives at Lifecycle WomanCare See more

It’s been a busy two weeks! Congratulations to a Well Born Baby Girl born Saturday 11/7! Mama’s due date was just before Halloween but it turns out baby liked baking. Due to high fluid levels, mama opted for an induction and went in on Friday morning. Contractions started pretty quickly but it took a while to get into active labor. She opted for an epidural around 7.5cm and her water broke, resealed, and had to be broken again by the midwife! Mama got some well needed rest fr...om the epidural, which is good, since it gave her the energy to push for just about 3 hours! She and her husband welcomed their baby girl Saturday evening just before 8pm! While I couldn’t physically be there due to hospital restrictions, it was still wonderful supporting this couple through their pregnancy, remotely during the birth, and during their first couple of weeks postpartum. Baby girl was adorable and bright eyed and awake for our follow-up yesterday. While she didn’t get the environment she planned for, mama is the first to say, she got the outcome she wanted Thanks to all the wonderful midwives from Lifecycle WomanCare and the nurses at Bryn Mawr Hospital Labor & Delivery that supported this family! Happy birthday to a new Well Born Baby Bou born just before 5am this morning!! Mama was super nervous about this delivery. Her first son was born 11years ago, and as she puts it, she had no clue and ended up delivering by cesarean. Fast forward and she was surprised to be pregnant again and definitely not wanting a repeat csection. As soon as she learned Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania was allowing doulas again, she contacted me for support during her vbac. Contrac...tions had been happening and labor definitely was ramping up since earlier this week. Last night things began to get more serious and she headed into the hospital around 9pm bc she thought her water had broken (it hadn’t yet). Upon arrival she was 3-4cm, 15minutes later she was 5cm. It wasn’t the dilation she was concerned about but pushing; that’s where she didn’t know what to do with her first. She got an epidural and was either complete before or during. She requested some time to rest and allow her brain to catch up to what her body was doing. Baby was good, and she took a time out. Around 2am the doctors broke her water and we began pushing. She had a wonderfully supportive team of a medical student (he was AWESOME...everyone was awesome, but this medical student deserves a special shout out!), two residents, the attending, and her nurse Liz. Mama needed to get the hang of pushing but with lots of coaching and tug of war she was a rockstar and got the job done! Baby boy joined us just before 5am and mama didn’t have a single tare!! Baby boy looks to be an enthusiastic sucker and snuggles in and started nursing with a little positioning. Congratulations to this family on the birth of their second son and mama’s successful vbac! Thanks to our wonderful team at HUP for all their cheering and coaching of this mama! See more

A week late, but happy Birthday to a Well Born Baby Boy!! Baby Boy made a prompt appearance arriving on his due date of 10/27!! This was mama’s second baby so she was familiar with the signs of warm up and had gone through an un medicated delivery before. She arrived at the hospital and was 6-7cm dilated, moving quickly up to L&D. She asked for her water to be broken and shortly after baby made a quick entrance earthside. Baby was a little surprised at the speed of delivery but everyone was fine. Congratulations to this family and wonderful supporting them, even if remotely, through baby #2! Thanks to their wonderful team at Christiana Hospital Maternity and their practice Women Living Well Obstetrics & Gynecology
