This morning our Community Outreach Manager, Lori Shenk, along with EMT's Beth Mensch and Nadia Guringo visited GEARS Summer Program in Elizabethtown for a bicy...cle safety presentation. In partnership with the American Trauma Society/PA Division (ATSPA), the students learned rules of the road, bicycle and pedestrian laws and a variety of other bike safety information. A focus of the program was concussion awareness and prevention, how to properly fit and wear a helmet, and why wearing a helmet when riding a bike is important. With the help of a grant from the ATSPA, Northwest EMS has helmets that we are providing to families who cannot afford to purchase a bike helmet for their children. There is a limited supply of helmets to give away in the community. If you do not have a bike helmet for your child, please contact us! We may be able to help. This morning officers from Northwest Regional Police Association helped Santa deliver gifts to two families in need of help this year. NWRPD hopes everyone has a good holiday season!
