SNOW UPDATE 3-6 inches of snow accumulation expected. Please use caution while driving as conditions could cause travel difficulties.
UPDATE: The convective nature of these snow showers has allowed for a couple of inches to fall in some spots! Be careful driving, where heavy snow is falling, s...nowfall rates of 1+ inch per hour can be observed. We believe snow was able to accumulate more quickly as a result of freezing fog this morning cooling the surface temperature down, as well as lapse rates in the upper levels of 7c/km. (Unstable!) 9 AM Radar Update: Snow showers are crossing the area and may reduce visibility at times, with slippery conditions possible on any untreated roadways. The chance for snow showers will remain through the day today, with up to an inch of accumulation expected. The exception to this is in the higher elevations, where 2 to 5 inches of snow can be expected.
January 15, 2021 UPDATE: 22,866 (+153) Cases in total since the beginning of US domestic cases being reported. Weekly case increases can be viewed via the following link: https://infogram.com/westmoreland-county-coronavirus-by-day
Though when we woke up it was in the upper 30s, temperatures have cooled significantly due to the air undergoing something known as "Wet-Bulbing." Wet-bulbing h...appens when air saturates and is cooled to the dew point temperature, and in this case the dew point temperature happens to be below freezing. Therefore, the air saturated, and cooled to below freezing which allowed rain showers to change to snow showers. See more
