Today was quite the busy day for the West Ridge Fire Department. At 0305, West Ridge was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm at the McDowell Senior High School. Shortly after the initial fire alarm dispatch, the tones rang out again with the West Lake Fire Department for the upgraded structure fire. Janitorial staff called 911 reported an odor of electrical in the building. Crews from Tower 479 and Engine 482 investigated to find a faulty baseboard heater. Engine 472 an...d Engine 474 also responded. Millcreek Paramedic Service MP-8 handled EMS. Chief 460 had the Command. At 0624, West Ridge was dispatching for an electrical hazard at Sterrettania Road and West 32nd Street. Chief 460 arrived with Command to find a primary electrical line down. Chief 460 quickly request fire police which generated a response from Truck 477 and several fire police officers to assist Millcreek Township PD. At 1217, West Ridge and MPS were dispatched to Browns Farm for a subject with a medical condition. Due to the location of the individual, the Argo UTV 476 was deployed allowing the paramedic to transport the patient out of a fairly remote area of Browns Farm to the waiting ambulance. In addition to these incidents, West Ridge handled two other EMS incidents with MPS and responded to a mutual aid automatic fire alarm with the Kearsarge Fire Department.

On August 14th at 07:55 West ridge was dispatched to a reported structure fire. Upon arrival of chief 460, he found a working basement/kitchen fire. The West ridge IRT Paid engine 472 crew responded and was on scene within three minutes of dispatch. Supplemented by West Ridge volunteers on scene engine 472 pulled an 1 3/4 hand line. While the stretch was being made to the side door a member of 472s crew used a water can to knock down some of the fire. 472 advanced the hand line into the kitchen and basement to continue fire suppression. Crews from 474 479 and kearsarge 444 helped with a second hand line and extensive overhaul. A great stop by the initial crew, saving the majority of the home and it’s contents.
