West Kittanning Fire Department has been invited to team up with Kittanning Borough Hose Companies 1, 4 and 6 in a food drive to benefit area residents in need this holiday season. Non-perishable food donations will be collected by each department and delivered in bulk to the Salvation Army in Kittanning on December 19th, 2020. You may drop off your donations at our station Thursdays between 6-8pm or by sending us a Facebook message to make other arrangements for a member to meet you at our station to accept your donation. Last week, crews from our department met up with Kittanning Hose Co 6 for both departments to familiarize ourselves with equipment locations and operations on Rescue 240, Engine 131 and Tower 131. Monday evening for drill, we joined Kittanning Hose Co 1 and Kittanning Hose Co 6 at the Armstrong County Fire School. Excellent job by all involved!

At 14:11 this afternoon, Armstrong 911 alerted Stations 240, 60, 110, 130, 80 and 90 for a large woods fire endangering multiple structures on Mile Long Hill Road, North Buffalo Twp. First arriving units from Station 110 confirmed a large working woods fire, rapidly spreading. Crews were faced with difficult access to the head off the fire because of inaccessible terrain by vehicle. Crews began ascending the hillside on foot from the bottom in an attempt to control the fire u...ntil UTV 240 and UTV 260 were able to make access and be utilized. Station 250 was requested for a Brush Truck and Tanker as well as Station 260 for their UTV and Tanker. On behalf of the department, I’d like to extend a huge thank you not only to our crew but also to the crews from: West Hills Emergency Services, Kittanning Hose Company 1, Kittanning Hose Company 6, Ford Cliff Fire Dept, Ford City Fire Department, Rayburn Fire Dept, Worthington West Franklin Fire Dept, and Kittanning EMS for their assistance and tremendous work today. Also thanks to Manor Twp Emergency Management Coordinator for launching his drone from across the river to give us arial updates of the fire progression in areas we couldn’t initially see from the ground. Thank you again to all who were involved. Chris Beck Assistant Chief West Kittanning Fire Dept

The members of West Kittanning Fire Department want to extend a huge THANK YOU to Joe Zambotti of Zambotti’s Collision & Welding Center for donating his time to mount trays for our hard suction hoses on Engine 241. Engine 1 never had storage for our hard suctions so we repurposed the trays from Engine 244 (Goliath) when that truck was taken out of service last fall. Engine 241 recently returned from having a pump overhaul at Kaza Fire Equipment to complete and pass pump certification.
