Huge thanks to everyone who came out to see Santa as he made his way through our first due this past Saturday. Feel free to tag the department pages in any pictures you share! There have been some questions and misinformation floating around regarding our decision to not pass out candy this year. In these unprecedented times and in light of recent surges in positive cases of the COVID-19 virus, the decision was made to not pass out candy in order to minimize the possible expo...sure of both the public and our members. First and foremost, our commitment as a 100% volunteer organization is to respond to emergencies in the Borough of West Mifflin and surrounding communities. In order to continue meeting that commitment it is our responsibility to make every effort to keep our firefighters (and the public) safe. The decision to not pass out candy was not a financial one but rather one of safety. We understand that this may have led to some confusion and we will certainly take this feedback into account as we move forward with our outreach event planning in 2021. Lebanon Manor, Dennison, Shadyside and Debaldo: he’s checking it twice!

Earlier this week, the Engine was requested by US Steel Irvin Works plant protection (Allegheny County Station 322) for a small brush fire on the edge of the property. The fire was quickly extinguished and all units from both agencies returned to service. The Engine, Truck, and #southendrescuecompany stayed busy over the weekend with multiple alerts for vehicle accidents and fire alarms, including a 2 vehicle accident with entrapment on Camp Hollow Road and a commercial alarm activation at the Springhill Suites that was found to be a small fire in a stairwell. Late last week, the #southendrescuecompany was dispatched for a vehicle on fire in a parking lot just off of Lebanon Church Road. Rescue 295 arrived on scene to find a partially involved car fire with the occupants out and no exposure issues. 295 Captain held the assignment to the Rescue and Engine 131: all units returned to service shortly thereafter. It was discovered last night that there are multiple fake Facebook accounts messaging people on here with various backstories and offering to resell tickets to our Virtual Sportmen’s Bash this weekend. The only legitimate place to purchase tickets online is our official social media pages or directly from a #3 firefighter. PLEASE do not send money to anyone on Facebook or Instagram for one of our tickets without verifying with the company first. Tickets are still available and we appreciate all your support!
