Hospice is a vital source of care for elderly people even though the details of it can often get misconstrued. Hospice is often associated with high emotion and confusion, but it can be a valuable option that families do not explore because of the misconceptions that revolve around it. It needs to be understood that hospice is about caring instead of curing, and allowing patients with limited time to live their life journey with dignity and grace. In learning the best options for handling and understanding hospice, people are able to get the best care possible for the time they have left!

On December 27th, the Residents and employees at our North Ridge Alzheimer’s Specialty Care Center in Albuquerque, NM celebrated a monumental milestone when the first COVID-19 vaccines were administered at the JEA Senior Living COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic. These first inoculations will be followed up in three weeks with the second dose to complete the series. Throughout the day, as vaccines were administered, an overwhelming wave of hope and joy-filled the clinic. These vaccines..., which are +95% effective, are the best weapon we have against this deadly virus. JEA has launched an educational campaign to help inform our residents, families, and staff on the benefits and risks associated with the vaccine. Similar vaccine clinics are being held in each of JEA’s communities with the hope of immunizing as many residents and staff as clinically appropriate.

Today there are more than 5.4 million people who suffer from Alzheimer’s and that number is constantly rising. Some tips to raise awareness for this disease include: educating family and loved one’s about the symptoms so it can be caught early, encouraging friends to wear purple, and raising money to help continue the funding for research to find a cure. By raising awareness and helping the cause, every day we become closer to finding the answer so that less people have to suffer!
