Inglis House Occupational Therapy services go beyond standard skills enhancements. Sometimes they include comprehensive evaluations of a resident's room to reco...mmend adaptive equipment and assistive technology all to enhance independence. Danielle Paffett, Director of Rehabilitation Therapies at Inglis, approached our Assistive Tech (AT) department to support a resident to access his call bell independently. AT helped bring Danielle’s ideas to fruition. With the aid of a switchbot and an amazon echo, they were able to link the two devices. Now, whenever he says Alexa, help or Alexa, call the nurse his call bell is activated, allowing him to have the independence to be anywhere in his room and still access his call bell. #TechTuesday

"I just wanted to give a shout-out to Roehler's Christmas Tree Farm. I took my son there for (what I thought was going to be) a 'quick purchase' from their pre-...cut trees (already cut, drilled, & on stands in their barn). Well, as any parent of a child with autism will tell you, 'plans-schmans'. Apparently, my son had a thought in his head that we were going to go 'wander the fields admiring and comparing trees, then finally choose the premier treeto which a man with a saw would come teetering out of the woods and cut it down. Then ,we’d hoist it on our backs so heftily, and march in from the field, covered in sawdust and sweat; tying it to the top of our car with pride, and driving home whilst singing carols'. Real life: we were starving, in a hurry, it was muddy and starting to rain again, and the sun was setting in 30 secondsand I had a migraine. I was very ok with his plan not happening, but he was not. Convinced that all pre-cut trees are fakes, he started into a meltdown, refusing any tree that was not currently growing in a field. I realized we were not getting a tree today. Positive that I’d have to wait until next week to get a tree, I started to drive away.. then Kevin from Roehler's stopped me. I explained what was happening (out of earshot of my son) and he asked if I already had a 'cut-tree' in mind... I showed him which one I liked, in the barn. Then, that man stunned me forever and saved everything... he offered to pick that tree up, carry it on his back all the way out through the muddy fields and stand it up in a row.. Then my son and I could ‘happen upon it’, pick it, and he would ‘fake cut it down’ and haul it back for us... Everyone’s a Winner!! THIS, people, is why you go to small businesses! Never, would a big company take the time and energy to do something like this (not that they have fields, but you know what I mean)... I could not name another place right now, from whom I could imagine such 'above & beyond' service, like Roehler’s provided tonight... As the lady was ringing me up, she asked 'Have you been to Roehler’s before?' 'YES! And believe me, I will NEVER go anywhere else, ever!' To Kevin at Roehler's Christmas Tree Farm: you have no idea how awesome you are! You completely saved our Christmas tonight; and never complained once about all the extra work to sell me a tree you already had ready. You took some of the ‘hard’ (that goes with raising a child on the spectrum) and lightened my load. You made him laugh, you made him happyand you made my week! 'Thank you' just isn’t enough! I post this in the hope that it will be read, and even more people will patron your wonderful tree farm... I don’t know how else to repay such a kindness. Thank you, and Merry Christmas!"
