YWCA Greater Pittsburgh 27.12.2020

We quickly transformed our traditional in-person STEM programming into awesome virtual activities so that we could continue to provide enriching STEM learning experiences for girls in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Since March, 83 girls have enrolled and participated in our STEM Stars program, a collaborative project of YWCA Greater Pittsburgh and Carnegie Science Center directed at middle school girls from economically disadvantaged homes. We still have spots left open for... the STEM Stars (5th-8th grade girls) and LaunchPad programs (geared towards 9th-12th grade girls) and are accepting new students on a rolling basis. Fill out the interest form below if you know a girl looking for fun STEM activities to keep them engaged this winter! Since March, YWCA Greater Pittsburgh has distributed over $370,000 in emergency funds to women and families in need of assistance. These funds have helped pay for basic necessities like housing, utilities, food, and transportation. We are humbled to have been invited into the lives of hundreds of families this year who have turned to us for help, many of whom were seeking emergency financial assistance for the very first time. If you or someone you know finds themselves in need of help, visit ywcapgh.org/what-we-do/resource-center/ or email [email protected]

AMERICA’S RECOVERY FROM THE 2020 SHECESSION: Building a Female Future of Childcare and Work This YWCA USA report makes practical recommendations for tackling childcare and the future of female work. "Global pandemics have been regarded as great equalizers. Viruses do not discriminate based on who you are, where you live, how much you earn, and certainly not by how you vote. The COVID-19 crisis, however, has upended the egalitarianism of pandemics, unearthing socia...l and economic inequities that are jeopardizing half a century of women’s hard-fought gains in the American workforce." -Alejandra Castillo, CEO of YWCA USA Read the entire report here: https://www.ywca.org/wp-cont//COVID_WOMEN-CHILDCARE_R4.pdf See more
