Special thanks to Matteo Iadonisi and 6abc Action News for featuring OSB's new Director of Development & Communications, Pam McGonigle. A Gold medalist and four-time Paralympian in Track and Field, Pam and her running guide dog, Maida, were hard to keep up with today on campus! First mage shows woman running with guide dog on a harness and second image is of a gold medal that says Paralympics Barcelona '92. https://6abc.com//paralympic-gold-medalist-takes-/7280320/

It's Global Handwashing Day! Yes, that’s a thing. We do hope that handwashing is a regular practice that you do every day, but in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, handwashing and its importance in helping prevent the spread of the virus is crucial. Take 20 seconds to wash your hands several times a day, Folks!

High School student, Ny'Aziah, zoomed with Ms. Eva, sharing screens, and used Canva to create this White Cane Safety Day Poster. Tech, research, design, literacy, and marketing skills were all incorporated into this lesson! Let's give Ny a big round of applause. Her facts were retrieved from website research and put into her own words. Poster reads:... White Cane Day October 15th White canes help us move place to place. Canes are a tool for safety. White canes help us to avoid obstacles. If you see someone using a cane, we probably don't need any help - but if we do, we will ask you! This day celebrates Independence for people who are blind and visually impaired.

Throwing it back to #oct152019 #whitecanesafetyday #whitecane #O&M #orientationandmobility Last year, Shamira crossed Broad Street in Philadelphia with confidence, a smile, her Orientation and Mobility specialist, and oh yeah, the @philliephanatic !!! This intersection is so busy; it's not easy to navigate for someone sighted. Shamira has spent countless hours, hard work, practice, and study to be able to accomplish this on a busy morning in #Philly. Her instructors have had... her back every step of the way. We continue to provide appropriate Orientation and Mobility Services both on campus and via distance learning. We celebrate White Cane Safety Day every day. #philadelphiaphillies #goals

For blind people, the white cane is an essential tool that gives us the ability to achieve a full and independent life. When you see a blind person using a white cane, remember that the cane is our tool to safely and independently navigate the environment. There's no need to shout warnings or try to physically steer us so that our canes won't bump into things. Remember that we are using our canes to explore what is around us. If we need any help or direction, we will ask. If you are driving or cycling and see someone using a white cane, you must follow the law and stop to give that person the right of way. Be careful out there!
