Soup Sale 10/24/20

Gallon (batch) # 3 of 15-Bean Soup finally completed - just in time for tomorrow's soup sale at church ! This truly was a labor of love and the house has smelle...d amazing for 2 days ! All 3 batches came out perfectly ! This really is a beautiful and delicious soup ! I can't wait to help hand out all of the delicious soups tomorrow ! But please do understand - after 2 days and 3 gallons..I may not want to have anything to do with 15-Bean Soup for a while ! Bon Apetit !! See more

Our church's soup-to-go fund-raiser is this weekend. I have until tomorrow afternoon to finish up 3 gallons (!!) of Hurst's' 15-bean Soup. Made the first gallon... tonight. I have been making pre-sale versions all week to make sure I get it right. Tonight I added garlic, diced tomatoes and some baby spinach to the first first batch ! OMG !! Sooo Good !! I now have to recreate this magic 2 more times in the morning - but boy-o-boy - what a delicious soup this is ! I hope you ordered it ! See more

Finally was able to get my flu shot today (at church !) after having to wait a week after ending my antibiotics for my foot (who knew..!??!). What a rainy & mi...serable weather-day in Philly. Glad I remembered to get my Instant Pot off of the high shelf it sits on before getting the shot...just in case I end up with a sore arm for a few days. I decided to enjoy the afternoon making a new test-batch of my soup before next weekend's big curb-side pick-up cold-soup sale at All Saints. Current count of pre-orders indicates I am whipping up 2 gallons of this delightful concoction for the fund-raising event ! Gonna play a little today in the kitchen and see what happens when I add a little sauteed garlic and some mini diced-tomatoes to the mix (from another similar recipe). Just wanna make sure it's PERFECT for next week ! See more

Stopped by ACME Market on the way to the beautiful outdoor evening service at Church tonight. I had not yet contributed to the wonderful outdoor Sharing Pantry ...Father Jay Walton built himself last week and which now sits out in the circle in our front entrance on Frankford Ave (a block shy of Grant Avenue right before Holy Family). I was so nicely surprised to see it already stocked with so many food items and some personal care items. I had to move a lot of stuff around to make my contributions fit ! This is a wonderful program created as a partnership between our generous congregation and the Northeast neighborhood we serve. The rules are simple...if you can share something with others - please do. If current situations have left in you in a place where we can help - please come by and help yourself to whatever you need. There is no sign up...no expectations. This is all done anonymously by those who care and for those we can help - Give if you can - Take what you need.
