Today was a blessing. I was able to help 2 wonderful families each fulfill a life chapter with the same home. The Petley's said goodbye to the home they lovingly raised their children in and I had the privilege they chose to work with me as their agent. Sometimes in this business, we are asked to help people in some of their most sensitive life situations. My last settlement of 2020 was filled with sadness, joy, and a lot of reminiscing. In early 2019, I met Doug and Connie who were relocating here from Connecticut. Doug had accepted a position with the Merchandiser and they had always loved visiting PA so they were very excited about the move. We searched for a while, got beat on a few homes, and finally found them the perf...ect home. They settled in March of 2019. I spoke with Doug often about business, sports, or helping them find a contact in the area for various reasons. The Fabian's had a lovely meal at their home for my family in which Doug and Bud made plans for a future visit to The Baseball Hall of Fame in NY. Fast forward to April 22, 2020, Bud's birthday. We are in the middle of quarantine, I am unable to work in person and am struggling with coping. I got a message from Connie that Doug had suddenly passed of a heart attack. I was devastated and shocked. I had just talked to him 2 weeks prior about fishing spots. So many tears. Over the next few months Connie and I spoke and discussed her staying here vs selling and moving back home. She loved PA and the people here but felt like she was being called to move back to family. We decided to take advantage of the market and were able to get her $21,000 over asking price. I was thrilled for her and knew Doug was smiling down on our negotiating as he was quite the salesman.
