Third Sunday of Advent Joy Joyis here a technical term and must be sharply distinguished both from Happiness and from Pleasure. Joy has indeed one characteristicthe fact that anyone who has experienced it will want it againI doubt whether anyone who has tasted it would ever, if both were in his power, exchange it for all the pleasures in the world. But then Joy in never in our power and pleasure often is. C. S. Lewis, Surprised by Joy The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord i...s on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of His righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns His head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations. Isaiah 61:1-3, 10-11 Final Prayer for Advent Joy: Almighty God, You have invited us to run toward joy, to endure for the sake of Your joy, to weep now, knowing that joy is coming. Our joy, like Yours, is found in a world set right. That joy does not come easily. It comes through labor pains. It is received through suffering. It is waited for with patience. We rejoice that, because Christ suffered, sin and death have been defeated. We rejoice in expectation of the great wedding feast. Forgive us for our tendency to complain and not rejoice. Deliver us from the temptation to becomes cynical and despondent. Help us discern between eternal joy and temporal pleasures. May our joy draw others to You. May our joy not be complete until all others share in the joy of Your reconciling love. Amen. See more

Here's yesterday's message from John 4:1-42. We explore Jesus' real purpose in going through Samaria - more than just winning one soul, He was looking to show His disciples that there was more harvest available than their cultural expectations might lead them to believe. And the same is true today - the harvest is there, if we'll just go after it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5XQVaGujtw

Here's Sunday's message from John 3. We answer the question of who John understood was first in His life, and who needs to be first in our lives - Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTcKPto9wdY
