Tuesday, November 3 is an historic day for a couple of reasons. In addition to being election day, we’re happy to say that Lock Haven has a new downtown bakery! SIMONE'S BAKERY at 24-26 East Main Street (the former Inspirations Florist) officially opens its doors tomorrow. Owner and baker Valerie Simone and her husband Kenny are excited to greet visitors and Valarie has been baking up a storm! You’ll find all kinds of tasty treats, from cookies and pastries to cakes, cheesecakes, pies and more! They’re taking special orders, you can grab and go, or if you want, you can sit in the seating area alongside the bakery and enjoy a cup of coffee with your order. The rain is moving out, so make plans to get out to the Clinton County Fairgrounds in Mackeyville today and/or tomorrow for the annual HOOSKOW CHAINSAW CARVERS' FESTIVAL! See carvers at work from dawn to dusk, making all kinds of awesome creations. The carvings are available for purchase, you can watch timed speed-carves, and each carver has at least one item available for a 2pm Auction on Saturday. Plenty of food vendors to enjoy, plus free parking and admission. We shot these photos as the carvers were getting set up on Thursday -- just an amazing variety of cool, cool carvings!

The state today issued its final Fall Foliage Report of the season, and yes, it indicates Clinton County foliage is 'past peak.' We say, once this messy weather clears out, get out anyway -- there's still PLENTY of NATURAL BEAUTY all around CLINTON COUNTY. If you need a few suggested routes to travel, we've got 'em on the attached flyer!

The Clinton County Economic Partnership & Visitors Bureau is proud to have participated today with Chestnut Grove Recreation Authority and several key partners in breaking ground for an exciting new youth sports athletic complex in Castanea! Authority chairperson Marci Orndorf thanked several key partners for their participation to date, including the Clinton County Commissioners, who supported a very involved permitting process; the Clinton County Solid Waste Authority..., which provided critical in-kind services such as land clearing and site preparation; Castanea Township, owner of the property who has authorized a long-term lease with the Authority; and Clinton County native, pro-football kicker Robbie Gould and the Goulden Touch Foundation, a key financial supporter. Orndorf said the project will be completed in two phases...the first being development of three baseball fields and supporting infrastructure on currently vacant ground across the street from the Castanea Fire Company Social Hall where today's groundbreaking was held (artist's rendering pictured). In the second phase, the existing Castanea ballfields will be redeveloped into three baseball fields and a football field. "It's been a team project up to this point, and it will take a lot more effort to complete the project," said Orndorf, noting that the Authority welcomes additional involvement from those interested in providing time and talent, as well as those who are interested in sponsorship opportunities. We've updated our "Fall Events in Clinton County" flyer to bring you the latest! Unfortunately, we did learn that "Brews in the Barn," a fun beer tasting festival and chili cook-off hosted as a fundraiser for Millbrook Playhouse, will not take place this year due to coronavirus concerns. The cancellation was announced today. BUT....check out the variety of other activities underway and coming up!

UPDATE: We have to apologize -- we were under the mistaken impression that tonight's Halloween Parade at Haven Place (24 Cree Drive, Lock Haven) was a public event. It is not -- the event is specifically for residents at the home. We're sorry for our error and hope the event is a success! Meanwhile, there are plenty of other local happenings. Attached is our special ‘Halloween Events’ flyer, updated with events running through October 31 (again, please note the Oct. 30 Haven Place Halloween Parade is an internal event not open to the public).

Trunk-or-treaters have until 3pm today to swing by one of Lock Haven's newest businesses. Twisted Metal Garage at 308 East Church Street is already giving back to the community, hosting a Halloween Trunk-or-Treat this afternoon with support from members to two car clubs....Central Pennsylvania Street Machines Car Club and the State College Car & Coffee Club. They've got treats in their trunks, you can grab a hotdog, and adults are even able to sign up for some Twisted Metal give-aways like an oil change, tire rotation or state inspection!

Don't delay! If you're wanting to get out for a drive to see the fall foliage, the time is now in Clinton County, PA! The state today updated it's fall foliage report, which indicates the fall colors in our region are 'starting to fade.' But, the weather over the next several days will be perfect for driving, hiking, biking....so make some time to get out and explore. The flyer below offers five scenic drives for leaf peeping!

Please know that all of these events are subject to change, especially in these fast-evolving times we're in.
