Don’t miss tonight’s talk with 2013 Wind Challenge artist Elizabeth Hamilton beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom. Elizabeth is a multidisciplinary artist who received her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She has exhibited at several museums and galleries including the Philip Muriel Berman Museum, the Delaware Contemporary, Cantor Art Gallery, the Woodmere Art Museum, and InLight Richmond at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. She has been awarded grants from the... Leeway Foundation in 2015 and 2017. She completed a residency at the Elsewhere Museum, and her work is in the collection of Drexel University, Harper College, the West Collection, and the MINI Museum. Join us tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m. for a crash course in weaving and building a loom with household objects with teaching artist Stefanie Fuoco. Learn how to weave on the loom you’ll build and gain an understanding of core techniques. At the end of this online event, you’ll be able to create a weaving you’ll be proud to hang on your wall. We are thrilled that almost half of our summer offerings will be presented in person in Fleisher's studios and in exciting places such as South Philadelphia's FDR Park, the Wissahickon Valley, the Philadelphia Zoo, and along the banks of the city's waterways. On Saturdays, January 16 through February 13, young artists in grades 9-12 can join Marie Elcin to see the world through the eyes of an illustrator and learn to communicate visually through watercolor. Marie’s class will meet on Zoom from 12:00-1:00 p.m. All young artists, even if they have not made art with us before, can register for our Saturday Young Artists Program. During our holiday term, which begins at the end of November, let Lara Cantu-Hertzler help you build a foundation for color mixing and building your palette in Color for Painters. This immersive workshop is an in-depth examination of color’s role in the medium, and you will thoroughly explore mixing strategies and color interactions. The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage announced 41 grants today in support of Philadelphia’s artists and cultural organizations, and Fleisher is proud to be a 2020 grantee! Our project, 360 Culture Lab, will support Fleisher’s partnerships in the Indonesian and Venezuelan community, including with Modero & Company, to share cultural traditions in new and engaging ways over the next two years. During our holiday term, which begins November 30, join Fran Gallun to explore collage and mixed media as way to invigorate your way of seeing and using materials. Relying on everyday items such as magazines, discarded papers, and even old artwork, you’ll learn about color and composition as you complete a number of projects. Don't miss Fleisher From a Distance tomorrow evening as @claesgabriel will discuss the unique process he employs to create his bold sculptural paintings. With Claes, we'll explore building structural frames, stretching canvases on varied angles, and designing and painting the piece. Claes will also discuss his recent adventures in mural painting and his recent work, "Boat People," located at 47th Street and Woodland Avenue. Learn how to put a personal twist on your holiday decorations this year in Claire Brill’s Mosaic Ornaments workshop. During our holiday term, Claire will teach you how to make your mosaic gazing ball or or ornament that's suitable for indoor or outdoor use in this five session immersive workshop. Tonight, Alexis Nutini of Dos Tres Press, pictured here leading a printmaking workshop during Fleisher’s 2018 Día de Muertos celebration, will discuss the cultural messages embedded in his work. Nutini’s prints, which he produces in his South Philadelphia shop, are reflective of the traditions of his homeland and his love for the medium. Please note, this event will be conducted in Spanish. Working with Bernard online, you’ll learn the anatomy of the skull and the correct proportions of a portrait. Our Día de los Muertos celebration begins tonight as we welcome artist, filmmaker, activist, and educator @michelleangelaortiz to speak about the impact of activism in her art, life, and community. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., Ortiz will explore recent work that deals with immigrants’ human rights and encourages healing through storytelling. Daniel Tucker, the graduate program director in socially-engaged art at Moore College of Art & Design, will be tonight’s moderator.
