Greendale Cemetery

We are deeply grateful for the sacrifice of our county's many veterans which include 5 Medal of Honor winners, Col. John Carter (Titusville), LTC Henry Shippen ...Huidekoper, CPL James Reisinger (both of Meadville), SGT John Kelly (Cambridge Springs), and SPC Ross McGinnis (Meadville). Carter, Huidekoper, and Reisinger were decorated for heroic action during the Civil War, Kelly during WW2, and McGinnis during fighting in Iraq. Of these, three are buried in the country (Carter at Woodlawn, Huidekoper and Reisinger at Greendale), one in France (Kelly), and one in Arlington National Cemetery (McGinnis). The life-sized likeness of SPC McGinnis will forever be immortalized as part of the War on Terror Memorial at the National Infantry Museum at Fort Benning, Georgia. "Special places Like Greendale require community caretakers - those of us who appreciate the region's history, enjoy the beautiful outdoors, and/or have friends and loved ones buried within the grounds. Greendale is a nonprofit organization and as such is not subsidized by tax or church revenues. Part of our mission is to provide lots at an affordable price. Therefore, while burial fees cover many of the costs associated with keeping Greendale in good order, they do not cover everything.... So we must rely upon the community to maintain this treasure.
