GRAND LODGE ELECTION ABSENTEE BALLOT INFORMATION April 12, 2021 District Lodge 141 has received an inordinate number of reports from IAM Members who have not ye...t received their absentee ballot, even though they requested their ballot, in some cases, more than a month ago. This is concerning given the fact that absentee ballots must be postmarked by April 22, 2021, and received by the IAM GST’s Office by April 29, 2021 to be counted. If you have requested your absentee ballot more than 14 days ago and still have not received it, please call the IAM General Secretary Treasurer’s Office at (301) 967-4701 and demand that your ballot be sent to you immediately. The IAM General Secretary Treasurer’s Office has assumed all control of the absentee ballot request and voting process for this Grand Lodge election. It is that office’s responsibility to ensure that IAM Members can vote in this election and are not disenfranchised. If you have requested your absentee ballot more than 14 days from the date of this communication, and have not received it, please notify us using the following link IAM141.org/WheresMyBallot so we have a record that you have not received your absentee ballot even though you requested it far in advance of the absentee request deadline of April 12, 2021. Thank you for your attention in this very important matter. Fraternally, Michael Klemm President and Directing General Chairman District Lodge 141

This week we are in the heartland, speaking with Tiffany Lopez, President of IAM Local 141 in Dearborn, Michigan. Local 141 is an amalgamated Air Transport Lodge that represents United Airlines Reservations Agents and Southwest Airlines Airport Customer Service Agents. Sister Tiffany is a 22-year veteran at United who became a Shop Steward shortly after joining the IAM in the year 2000. She expanded on her work as a union activist when she became the chair of the Community Se...rvice Committee, later serving as Recording Secretary. She has served as president of the 200-member local for 3 years. Members of the small but mighty Local Lodge 141 are active in community service activities in the Dearborn and Detroit areas and hold regular training sessions to stay engaged and up to date. Local 141 also has a very active Organizing Committee led by Vice President Jeff Toms and an effective Grievance Committee led by Andrea Myers, who also serves as Vice President of District 141. IAMAW ARTWORK BY VICTOR ACOSTA FEATURED AT SUNY EMPIRE STATE COLLEGE Jan 18, 2021 Handcrafted artwork from two IAM members appeared in a 2021 SUNY Empire State ...College calendar. The pieces were part of an annual calendar distributed by the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies in New York, an associates, bachelors and master’s degree program that includes prominent IAM alumni. Everyone who has received a copy of the calendar loves it not only because it celebrates the incredible creativity of our students but because it also offers a snapshot of labor history at your fingertips, says university spokesperson Solomon Syed. Too many people are not familiar with labor’s rich history and how it has benefitted all working people. A photo of an album cover for a re-mixed version of the popular labor song Solidarity Forever represents the month of January and was created by IAM Organizing Grand Lodge Representative Gabrielle Rogano. The original image is a collage composed of union literature, images of women workers and colorful font. It took me a full day of crafting. The center piece is made from a canvas which is glued onto a piece of cardboard, said Rogano. It feels phenomenal to have my artwork featured. IAM District 141 member Victor Acosta’s artwork appeared on the back of the calendar. The painting entitled Helping Hand shows a greyish white background with two brown arms extending and shaking hands. Acosta says it represents the relationship between union members and the district’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP), an employee benefit program that assists workers with personal problems such as mental and emotional well-being. The artwork is an oleo or oil as it is known and took three hours to complete. The canvas size is 1824 inches, said Acosta, District 141 EAP Department Regional Coordinator. I’ve been an artist since early childhood. Early in my youth I learned how to produce acrylic, watercolors, pastel and oil art. The first calendar was released by SUNY Empire State College in 2020 and the university plans to create another edition in 2022. Invitations to submit artwork are offered to students who are enrolled in the Labor Studies program. Since 2014, the IAM has partnered with SUNY Empire State College to offer degrees in labor studies through the Harry Van Arsdale, Jr. Center for Labor Studies. https://iam141.org/iamaw-artwork-by-victor-acosta-featured/

Mary Sansom Has Receipts: A union activist who has recorded and made history. Shut ‘Em Down! Mary Mary A. Sansom has fought for airline workers for decades, taking on managers, politicians, and even retirement on the way.... Sister Mary Sansom was initiated into Local 1833 of the Machinists Union in 1973 when she began working in the flight kitchen at Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis, Minnesota. One of her co-workers dragged her to local meetings, but she did not fully understand the value of union membership (among other things) until she was furloughed during a pilots strike 5 years later. She marks that as the beginning of her union education that has guided her through more strikes, airline mergers, and also many successes as a champion for working people. Mary has served as Chief Steward and has been recognized for her work as a safety advocate. As the first woman to chair the Labor Division of the National Safety Council, she has received several awards for her service. She has represented Local 1833 in 5 Grand Lodge Conventions, where she earned the nickname Shut ‘Em Down Mary because of her strong criticism of airline mergers and the immense pain they inflict on workers. In 2006, she was recognized again by the Machinists & Aerospace Union as Sister of the Month for the United States. During a turbulent period in the airline industry in the 1990s, Mary continued her advocacy work as a delegate to the IAMAW Legislative Conference and the Minnesota State Council of Machinists. She was elected Recording Secretary of Local 1833 in 2000, a position she still holds, even after her retirement in 2010. As a retiree, Sister Mary stays active as Recording Secretary for the Minnesota State Council of Machinists, is a founding member and serves as Recording Secretary for the Minnesota State Council Machinists Retirees, and is the president of the Local 1833 Retired Members Social Club. We are pleased to welcome Mary

141 Report: District Lobbyist James Wells James Wells, from Local 1726 in Boston, talks about some of the legislative work being done in the New England area on behalf of airline workers. James Jamie Wells is a well known Machinists Union activist and organizer whose work has taken him far beyond his home state of Massachusetts. Jamie began his career at Continental Airlines in 1993, and soon after became interested in political lobbying after a visit to the late Senator Te...d Kennedy’s office. He put all his energy into union organizing and became one of the first Shop Stewards for his co-workers on the ramp at Boston Logan Airport in 2010. After the merger of United and Continental Airlines in 2011, Jamie continued his work as Shop Steward and was elected Vice President of IAM Air Transport Local Lodge 1726. He became a member of the District 141 organizing team that has worked in campaigns at Spirit Airlines, jetBlue, and Delta. Jamie continues his legislative work as Secretary-Treasurer of the Massachusetts State Council of Machinists and is also actively organizing and educating members in his role as MNPL and Legislative Education Director for the State Council. Jamie shared his views on the current state of politics and labor issues and the resources available for activism, progress, and change in this week’s District 141 Video Report. See more

Airline Relief Extension TRANSPORTATION October 1, 2020 The IAM is urging an immediate, standalone extension of expired airline worker relief, known as the Payr...oll Support Program (PSP). Tens of thousands of airline workers were furloughed at midnight on Thursday, October 1 after Congress could not come to terms before aid from the CARES Act ran out. Reports on Thursday indicated that negotiations for an overall relief package remained far apart. Without consensus to help all Americans, the IAM is urging immediate passage of stand-alone legislation to extend the airline PSP. Read the IAM’s letters to the House and Senate. The IAM supports standalone PSP extension bills and urges House and Senate leadership to immediately pass the bipartisan Air Carrier Worker Support Extension Act, led by U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett (D-VI). As negotiations continue today on a relief package, our members are now facing the grim reality of trying to survive during the global pandemic without a paycheck and health care benefits, said IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr. We have long supported the bipartisan negotiations to pass a comprehensive relief package to help all American workers and affected industries through the economic distress of this global pandemic, but time has run out for airline workers that we proudly represent. It is past time for Congress to act. We must act now. Both American Airlines and United Airlines proceeded with more than 32,000 furloughs beginning Thursday. Both airlines have agreed to rescind furloughs if federal aid is approved in the next few days. How much more nonsense and political posturing must the working people of our country have to endure? said IAM Transportation General Vice President Sito Pantoja. Our members risk their health every day to move people and goods across this country. I encourage every Machinist to loudly let Congress know how you feel. Here’s how you can still help save thousands of airline jobs: Call your Senators and Representative at 866-829-3298 and urge them to pass an extension of the airline Payroll Support Program through March 31, 2021, and to save hundreds of thousands of frontline airline workers’ jobs. Tell your Senators and Representative to extend airline worker relief. We just need to make sure that people understand that we’re people, IAM member Andrea’ Myers, a United Airlines Reservations Agent in Detroit, told the Washington Post. We’re not just a number at United Airlines. We have families. We have things we have to get done.

The midnight deadline to extend the airline Payroll Support Program (PSP) has come and gone without action from Washington, DC. Tens of thousands of IAM member...s and other airline employees woke up unemployed today, said General Vice President Sito Pantoja. They did not lose their jobs because of COVID-19. They did not lose their jobs because of decisions made by airline executives. Airline workers lost their jobs today because the politicians who were elected to protect them failed to take action in a timely manner to save them. The Machinists Union recognized the need for additional government relief for airline workers shortly after the passage of the CARES Act in March. It was obvious that our national emergency would last beyond the September 30 expiration date of the PSP contained in the CARES Act. Airlines and other unions ultimately joined the IAM and supported a clean PSP extension. After a tremendous amount of airline and union lobbying, we jointly convinced a significant majority of both chambers of Congress, along with the Executive Branch, to support it as well. The leadership of both parties in the House and the Senate are on record supporting the legislation necessary to keep airline workers employed. Disgracefully, Congress failed to put their words into action in time to prevent today’s mass furloughs. While the airline Paycheck Support Program (PSP) contained in the CARES Act expired yesterday, Congress is signaling a clean PSP extension may still be possible in the coming days as part of comprehensive COVID relief legislation. United Airlines and American Airlines have announced that although they proceeded with furloughs today, they would reverse those furloughs if Congress provides payroll support in the coming days. The IAM is urging all carriers to do the same. This gives our members who have just been furloughed a glimmer of hope, said General Vice President Sito Pantoja, but a tremendous amount of uncertainty still remains. Hope alone will not pay a mortgage or pay medical bills. Hope alone will not put food on the table or clothes on children. Hope with definitive, swift action is what airline workers need today. Thanks to the efforts of IAM members and the Machinists Union’s legislative team, we have led the fight on Capitol Hill from the onset. Now, with a possible PSP extension in sight, we need to continue imploring Congress to get this deal done. TAKE ACTION NOW: 1. Call your Senators and Representative at 866-829-3298 to urge them to pass a clean extension of the PSP through March 31, 2021, and to save hundreds of thousands of frontline airline workers’ jobs. 2. Tell your Senators and Representative to extend airline worker relief. While we work every angle to get this deal done and get our sisters and brothers back to work, said GVP Pantoja, I encourage every Machinist to keep the pressure on Congress. The IAM on Wednesday wrote a letter to every member of the House of Representatives urging them to quickly pass the revised HEROES Act recovery package, which includes a clean airline PSP extension and much-needed relief funding for Amtrak and transit workers. The IAM also sent joint airline union coalition letters to the House and Senate pushing them to immediately pass a clean extension of the PSP.
