We are in the throws of another campaign season. There are many who are collecting signatures for city council. I met with LaQuinn Thompson who is someone who wants to run for this important office. Check him out. He is worth consideration. LaQuinn Thompson for City Council

Five days, two months ago, I was running for office in the 95th. Although, my campaign did not result in a victory, it was extremely successful. When asked what is next by many, the response has been; give me time, I am waiting for the dust to settle, I am waiting for 2021 to begin, I need to take sometime away from politics. Like so many, my hope was that things would settle down at least a little.... We are 7 days into 2021. OMG. I am posting this to say, like so many others, I am taking it all a day at a time. Yes, I am here. Yes, I am very much a member of this community. Yes, I am available to help how ever I can. We all dream of a better 2021. To make it so let's resolve to be patient and steadfast. To make it better, it is up to us as individuals. Please, let's not chip away at 2021. Let's work together to make it better. Please. Graphic from NYT Dec. 16, 2020 Artist credit Andrea Chronopoulos

Let me start with I am very excited for all those persons who are over the age of 65 and are/have received the COVID-19 vaccine. Here is my caveat though. There are too many in long term care facilities who should be getting the shot in the arm first. Pennsylvania has opened up the criteria for those who should get the shot. Increasing the demand, increasing the stress for those who would benefit the most from being first in line. Plus, if the residents and healthcare/workers... directly affiliated with long term care facilities were inoculated first, the number of new cases and deaths would recede radically! Thus, alleviating the strain on our hospitals, doctors offices, start to truly reopen the economy. I am 64, in good health, live an independent life. I miss hugs, I miss being with more than one friend at a time while "socially distancing." My skin is chapped from all the handwashing. I want to travel, I want to go back to normal. In time this will happen. Until then, I ask our Governor Wolf and nominee Alison Beam to make this a top priority. We can do so much better for our loved ones!!! https://www.inquirer.com//covid-19-vaccine-nursing-home-cv

I haven't watched the movie "Ground Hog Day" in years. I sure do feel like I/we are all currently living in the sequel. Here is what you will be alerted to is you are looking for an update regarding PUA and other unemployment. On 12/27/2020, a federal COVID-19 relief package was signed into law. The PA Dep of L&I is reviewing the new unemployment provisions and awaiting guidance from the U.S. Dep of Labor outlining how the CARES Act program extensions must be implemented. The... date of your initial application will determine which action you must take: A) you opened a new PUA claim in 2020 prior to 12/27/2020: Do not take any action at this time. DLI will let you know when you should resume filing your weekly benefit certifications. B) you have never had a PUA claim and have now opened (or plan to open) a new PUA claim 12/27/2020 or later: you may complete the application to have a PUA claim, and must begin filing your weekly certifications for benefits. No payments will be released until the Department receives federal guidance and fully implemented. Like before, if you can't find the answers, send me a message. See more
10 months later... Federal, State, and local, if 40 to 50 percent of deaths from COVID-19 is directly traceable to Long Term Care Facilities (LTFC), why are we not focusing efforts on this contained, "most vulnerable" population. Dr. Levine has accepted a new position. Will we see improvement? The quote below should be a wake up call. Read the rest of the article and one has to ask why?... "Months later at the end of 2020, that number would climb to 60 percent, making Pennsylvania the sixth worst state in terms of deaths in LTCFs according to an analysis by The New York Times. The Times also ranked the total deaths in each specific nursing home across the country, and six of the top 10 most deadly facilities were in Pennsylvania." https://delawarevalleyjournal.com/dvj-exclusive-docs-revea/
