LOCAL EVENT of Historical Interest SUNDAY, MAY 28 REMEMBERING WICONISCO'S GREAT WAR SOLDIERS Sunday MAY 28 - 6:30 PM - 8 PM... Calvary United Methodist Cemetery, Wiconisco, PA Hosted by Wynning History Details In April 1917, the United States marched into the war on the European continent. Among the thousands volunteering for service in the country's armed forces were a few dozen young men and women from a small coal mining community on the northern edge of Dauphin County. Their actions during the "Great War" helped to reshape the course of American history while the conflict redefined their community on the home front. Join local historian Jake Wynn for a guided tour in Wiconisco Township's United Methodist Cemetery and rediscover the lives of numerous World War I veterans from the "Upper End." As the country commemorates the 100th anniversary of American entrance into the conflict, this program will explore how the First World War changed Williams Valley, and those who lived here, forever. The tour will meet at the flag pole at the lower end of the cemetery.
