HAPPY ANNIVERSARY NEW LIFE!! In September 2003, Bishop Keith W. Reed opened the New Life Credit Union to educate and empower his church members as well as the community of people who live, work and worship around Sharon Baptist Church at 59th & Catherine. At that time, the Credit Union was one of many "church" credit unions across the country targeting unbanked and underbanked communities. Seventeen years later, the NEW LIFE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION is a federally designated Comm...unity Development Finance Institution (CDFI) and one of the ONLY remaining independent Church Credit Unions in the State Over the years, we have seen many changes in the financial landscape in Philadelphia. Positively, access to financial services has increased tremendously, the church has expanded to include a Main Campus at 3955 Conshohocken Ave and the formerly, low income community around 59th & Catherine in now a moderate income community. However, there is STILL a need for fair and equitable financial services and education. We STILL find a large discrepancy between the average new worth of white households and non-white households. We STILL see a need for minority owned financial institutions to help support small and minority-owned businesses who tend to be underfinanced by mainstream bank. We STILL see a need to educate members about credit, stocks, homeownership, wealth building, savings, entrepreneurship and investment. So as we celebrate 17 years, we send a special BLESSING and HUGE THANK YOU to the many volunteers who have supported the credit union over the years, especially our dedicated #NatashaMoore, #ValerieCorbett and #RonSheldonJr who have kept the doors open through this COVID season. We also celebrate the members who have been with us from the start and the many new members who been faithful over the years. We celebrate the ministries who use the Credit Union for their financial services and we thank the members who have taken out loans with the Credit Union Over the years. As we cross over into this next phase, the best is yet to Come!!!
