Rear View Mirror A brief look at my dubsado client management software shows revenue down 100% from this time last year. A stark reality that most wedding photographers and other industry professionals have had to face at some point this year. As event after event was cancelled, or adjusted, or postponed, revenue that was counted on and expected to pay bills that we still need to pay in order to run our businesses, like insurance, website fees and more, wasn’t coming in. W...hile we try to prepare financially for some unknowns, getting hit with a pandemic after coming off an already typically slow season for most of us in the wedding industry was a shock to say the least. For most self employed like myself, unemployment compensation was not an option. Thankfully options became available at some point, but not without most of us going through 16 weeks of savings by the time anything came through. PUA still didn’t account for business costs, so what we did receive had to not only cover our ‘paycheck’, but also the cost of running our businesses. I think most of us probably tried to cut expenses wherever necessary, eliminating certain things or not investing in new equipment as we normally would. At the start of 2021 I can proudly say I’m still self employed, even starting a new business despite the hardships of 2020. Looking back in that rear view mirror, I wouldn’t change any of it. Through the struggles beautiful things can and will grow if you work at them hard enough. Thank you to all of my clients that remained faithful throughout the beautiful mess that was 2020. I am working hard to complete any open galleries, album orders, etc and am so appreciative of your patience with me this year, as I navigate both a second business and an extra job this year to ensure the longevity of my business for future couples once the pandemic is behind us. I am human, and I am doing the best that I can, I promise you that. I won’t ever stop fighting for you to have the wedding of your dreams, no matter how big or small and I’ll always proudly stand by your side on your perfect day. Beautiful things are coming. When Morgan & Charlie's wedding plans were derailed not once, but twice, they decided to turn their wedding day into an intimate church ceremony and host the wedding in the home Morgan grew up in.
