Ol’ Battle Cat has the distinction of being one of the longest actively serving warships in US Navy history! Generations of sailors served aboard this fine ship and it wasn’t uncommon that three generations of the same family served aboard the Kitty Hawk at one time or another! #kittyhawk #CV63 #navy #ForgedByTheSea #nrsreading #ntagphilly

Every week we will feature a different staff member supporting or assigned to #RTC for our #StaffInTheSpotlight Meet DC2 Jonnie Villa! Petty Officer Villa is a... #DamageControlman currently serving at #bootcamp as an instructor at the #USSChief Fire Fighter Trainer. Villa had to grow up fast and tough in Chicago. He experienced violence and brutality first hand. He was told many times he wouldn’t make it past 17 years old. He refused to accept his situation and made the choice to join the U.S. Navy in 2013. I had to get out of Chicago, and be responsible for my life. I had to take care of myself, make a better future, and then help out my family. Now at RTC, Villa is teaching future Sailors how to fight the ship. But even more important to him, are the opportunities he gets to mentor recruits. Villa tries to emphasize things like making good financial decisions and taking care of your shipmates. Everybody gets a different Navy experience. There are things that will differ for each person, I just want to make sure they have enough information so they can take care of themselves whether this is a career or not. Villa feels he is on his way to where he wants to be in his own life. He has aspirations to be an entrepreneur and create a business designing artwork for décor, clothing and tattoos. It is his dream to run his business with his family and lift them up to success as well. #Hooyah DC2 Villa!

Meet #SeamanRecruit Chase Barnes from #Carthage #Texas who is currently assigned to division 169. I wanted a change in career. I’ve been an ICU RN for 13 year...s. As a #registerednurse , Barnes has experience working in Neuro-ICU, Medical-ICU, Trauma-ICU, and Cardiac-ICU. I was ready for a change, and a new adventure. Barnes also is an avid fan of the outdoors and volunteered at a low-cost/no-cost spay or neuter facility. He enjoys listening to people’s stories and looks forward to new experiences in his future Navy career. #Hooyah SR Barnes!
