Update from the DOH on Covid-19 vaccines for EMS providers: Today at 1:00 PM., the Department of Health will issue an Order of the Secretary Requiring Health Systems, Hospitals, Federally Qualified Health Care Centers and Pharmacies to Vaccinate Certain Health Care Personnel. This Order will require that hospitals, health systems, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and pharmacies reserve at least 10 percent of each shipment of vaccine to vaccinate health care person...nel not affiliated with a hospital or health system, which includes Emergency Medical Services Providers. The vaccination process must be orderly and not overwhelm the capacity of the facilities providing the vaccination services. Vaccination of all Pennsylvanians, including those healthcare personnel in Phase 1A not affiliated with a hospital or health system, depends on the vaccine supply. Initial supply of vaccine is limited in comparison to the demand and there will not immediately be enough vaccine to immunize everyone in Phase 1A. Estimates of the number of healthcare personnel in Pennsylvania approach 1 million individuals. Employers of healthcare personnel, including EMS agencies not affiliated with a hospital or health system must prioritize staff to receive vaccine consistent with the Phase 1A sub-prioritization guidance found in Pennsylvania's COVID-19 Interim Vaccination Plan. The Department’s goals are to prioritize the vaccine to maximize benefits and minimize harms caused by the virus, promote justice, mitigate health inequities, and promote transparency. To support the execution of this Order the Department has created guidance for Vaccine Providers and for Healthcare Personnel Not Affiliated with a Hospital. Dr. Levine will cover this issue during her press conference at 1:00 p.m. today. It can be streamed here.

There’s plenty of rain in the forecast before Christmas. With the rainfall totals and the melting snow, there is potential for localized flooding around our are...a. While our Streets and Parks crews will be working hard attempting to clear snow and debris away from storm drains, we could still use your help to clear any storm drains near your home. As always, be extra cautious when water is on the roadway as it could be hiding a variety of dangers underneath. The majority of flood drownings occur in vehicles. Please turn around, don’t drown!
