Looking forward to trying something new - October for us will be focused on our first online arts and crafts benefit auction. There will be about 200 items including furniture, pottery, paintings, prints, textiles, lamps and books. There will be a preview by Zoom meeting, in-person viewing of the auction items and a live auction to run concurrently with the online auction. All profits from the auction will go towards the "Keep Wharton Esherick in Rose Valley" fund to purchase as much as possible of Hedgerow Theatre's Esherick collection at Freeman's auction on October 27th.

Although we are facing challenging times, I would like to take a moment on the last day of March to recognize Women's History Month. A few weeks ago, I visited ...Rose Valley Museum and Historical Society to honor and celebrate women like Alice Barber Stevens & Mildred Scott Olmsted, who have enriched our past and blazed a trail for our future. I also got to see the progress made on their roof project! See more

Update on Esherick auction FREEMAN'S AUCTION HOUSE HAS ANNOUNCED THE FOLLOWING: "The Wharton Esherick Collection has been postponed to June to allow additional time for fundraising efforts, and a public exhibition."... This hopefully will provide the needed time to arrange to keep most of the items in the Rose Valley area. The RVMHS Board

Current status of the auction of Hedgrow’s Esherick holdings: The March 31st auction of Hedgerow’s Esherick holdings at Freeman’s Auction House has been postponed to April 7th ( https://issuu.com/freemansauction/docs/1660). During increasingly difficult times as these, it is natural for humans to look to the arts for solace and human connection. Every dollar raised will help Hedgerow Theatre survive this crisis and preserve the legacy of Wharton Esherick in Rose Valley. We... recognize that the current health crisis and it’s subsequent restrictions will impact many in the area. However, now that the auction has been delayed, it also offers each of us a rare chance to continue to spread the word about fundraising to Keep Wharton Esherick in Rose Valley. Currently the Esherick Fund contains $108,950 and one person has offered $10,000 specifically towards the purchase of the Thunder table. Two recent articles have been published about the sale. The links to each article are noted below. Delaware County Times article: https://www.delcotimes.com//article_48b5bce6-6896-11ea-bd1 Arts & Crafts Collector article: https://www.artsandcraftscollector.com//rose-valley-commu/ We will continue to keep you up date, as best we can. Dear friend of the Rose valley Museum: The "Henry Chapman Mercer and the Arts & Crafts Tile" lecture by Mr. Koehler has been postponed to April 19, 2020. However, we will post pone this lecture again if need be for everyone's safety.

Rose Valley Museum and Historical Society 01.07.2020

Rose Valley Museum and Historical Society will be closed the weekend of March 21-22, 2020. The Henry Chapman Mercer and the Arts & Crafts Tile lecture by Mr. Vance Koelher has been moved to April 19, 2020 at 4pm. A corrected lecture announcement will follow this notification. I will also be directly contacting those that have signed up to visit the Museum or to attend the lecture that weekend to resolve any issues caused by this change in plans. Current estimates by NIH ...predict that the reported cases of the COVID-19 virus in the US are only the beginning of a wider incidence of infection. Experts are recommending 'social distancing' as one way to mitigate the spread of the virus, specifically to aid in minimizing the strain on medical staff and facilities. The Museum feels that it is in everyone’s best interests to cancel/change our March schedule RVMHS Board of Directors
