1. His Excellency, Bishop Gregory J. Mansour has granted Monsignor Francis J, Marini’s request for retirement as Pastor of our parish effective October 1st, 2020, and has appointed the Reverend Antoun Youssef as Administrator of the parish effective on the same date. 2. Monsignor Marini, who will remain Judicial Vicar of the Eparchial Tribunal, has been Pastor since August 1st, 2003, and will celebrate his 25th Anniversary of Ordination on Sunday, September 27th. 3. Abouna Youssef, who is from QattineHarhariya, District of Kesserwan, Lebanon, comes to us from Saint Stephen Maronite Mission in Charlotte, North Carolina, and will celebrate the weekend liturgies on October 3rd and 4th. Please make Abouna Antoun very welcome at his new parish in Scranton!

Congratulations to the six children who made their First Holy Communion at our Parish on Sunday, August 9th, 2020: Maximus Michael Artabane, Norman Paul Artabane IV, Ari Michael Friedman, Sofia Cawley Iorio, Lorenzo Jason Tayoun and Samantha Jane Tayoun.

The Reverend Pastor has come to a difficult decision regarding our Annual Lebanese Heritage Festival in the time of COVID-19. After discussing this at length with knowledgeable persons in and outside the parish, it was clear that we could not have a traditional festival with all the local, state and federal guidelines and restrictions that now apply. Also, we cannot expose our hardworking volunteers to the increased risk of contracting COVID-19 when it is very uncertain tha...t the hundreds of people who patronize our festival would even do so this year. These important concerns, as well as the uncertainty of weather conditions which hurt the 2019 festival attendance, and the current high costs of meat and food products which would reduce our final profit, all compel the conclusion that holding even a very modified festival this year would compromise the public’s expectations of our festival for a long time to come. Instead, we will hold other small fund-raising events to try to recoup some of the lost revenue from the festival, and plan on resuming our traditional Lebanese Heritage Festival next year. See more
