In order to protect the health of our community, the Samek Art Museum is temporarily closed. If circumstances allow, we plan to re-open Jan. 6. #samekartmuseum #bucknell #lewisburgpa
Before COVID, the Samek invested in a digital microscope to help us study our collections better. The tool lets us take a closer look at all the details hidden from the eye that goes into creating these artworks. Lucas Van Leyden St. Mary Magdalene, c. 1520 Engraving on Paper... The Samek Art Museum's latest exhibition, Neil Anderson: Earth Songs, is open at our Downtown Gallery, located at 416 Market Street, Lewisburg, PA, open Wednesday Saturday, 12 5 p.m. *** His abstract paintings are "songs" that celebrate the earth. They are begun simply, without a final plan, and improvised until the relationship between parts (like our own relationship with the earth) becomes complex and interdependent. *** Exhibitions are open with new safety precautions..., including requiring masks and limiting attendance to a couple of visitors at a time (it's like having the museum to yourself!) Samek galleries provide a drop-in "asynchronous" learning space that does not require gathering crowds. All events and programs will be online, so check museum.bucknell.edu after your visit. As we look to science to tackle our current pandemic, history has shown that art can help get us through times of crisis by providing opportunities for reflection, connection, and inspiration. #samekartmuseum #bucknell #downtownlewisburgpa #neilanderson #artexhibition See more
Tomorrow is the last day to see the exhibition, do it (home), do it takes written instructions by international artists as a point of departure, which are then freshly interpreted and locally enacted by members of our campus and community. do it is the longest-running and most far-reaching exhibition ever to happen, giving new meaning to the concept of the "Exhibition in Progress." Our Campus Gallery is located on the top floor of the ELC building and is open from 12 5 p.m.
Sometimes, museums find works of art in their collection that don't have a number or any documentation! These objects are referred to as "Found in Collections" and receive a number so we can keep track of them. The Samek uses numbers beginning with x! Then, staff do research within our files to see if we can determine where the work came from. If none is found, the museum can use abandoned property law to claim ownership, as often the works are former donations or purchases that have been long separated from their paperwork!
