Happy 2021 from the CRS team with Second Chance PA.
May this festive season fill your heart and home with bundles of joy.
Our Certified Recovery Specialists spent part of the week delivering holiday treats to the police and EMS departments throughout Lancaster County. Thank you to all that have partnered with us and worked so cohesively to help others, especially during these tough times!
Meet Chief Ed Cunningham Chief Edward Cunningham began his career with the Elizabethtown Police Department in January 2018. A 28 year veteran of law enforcement, Chief Cunningham spent almost 23 years patrolling the streets of Pittsburgh, PA, before being hired to lead the Elizabethtown Police Department (EPD). A third-generation police officer, Chief Cunningham has always had a passion for community engagement and public service. During his time working in urban law enforcem...ent, Chief Cunningham recognized that people who were struggling with addiction needed more than the traditional criminal justice system could offer, but he found that there were very few out-of-the-box solutions available that the police could offer to those who were in need of these services. There are times that arrest is what is needed, but in many more situations, arrest is not the best answer. Many have said it, but Chief Cunningham definitely believes the saying that We cannot arrest our way out of this situation, and he has spent a lot of time trying to find an innovative way to increase the services that are available to those who need it the most. With the full support of the Lancaster County District Attorney’s office and the Elizabethtown Borough Council, Chief Cunningham is proud to have been at the ground floor of the SecondChancePA program. EPD is excited to join with almost all of the other police departments in Lancaster County in offering this ground-breaking and much-needed service to our residents. Chief Cunningham is also proud that SecondChancePA is one of several different programs that are offered by EPD to help break the stigma between the police and the members of the community who need our assistance the most. EPD is always trying to find ways to ensure that citizens receive the necessary services, especially when arrest is not necessarily the most appropriate answer.
