Sorry, it's going to be long. I'm going to be frank. Like other grocery stores, my business has been positively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In spite of many inconveniences and headaches, we have seen record revenues and profits in 2020. And we in the retail food industry are not the only ones. Many of you in other industries have had a terrific year. You know who you are. In contrast, our wonderful local restaurants are enduring what must be the most challenging time they have ever experienced. I can't imagine what they have been dealing with, and to finish off the year, they are facing another round of lost revenue due to the newly announced shutdown of indoor dining during the holiday season. They did nothing to deserve this. And those of us in other industries have done relatively little to deserve our surprising success in such an unusual time. We can't change this situation, but there's a small thing we can do. I'm calling on all of my fellow business owners who have had a normal or extraordinarily good year in business to join me in showing our support for our local restaurants and all of their employees who may be facing a hard time this holiday season. And even if you aren't a business owner, if God has blessed you with plenty this year, remember those who are not as fortunate. Among the many people who deserve our support are the hard-working owners and employees of the wonderful local eateries our area is privileged to enjoy. HERE'S WHAT I'M ASKING OF YOU: Order their great take-out food. Buy their gift cards. Give them to your friends, family, employees, coworkers, and neighbors. Buy them for yourself to use later. DO IT TODAY. CHRISTMAS IS NEXT WEEK! You will benefit yourself, the recipient, and the families who work hard to bring these unique dining experiences to our area. The big national chains will likely survive. Our local businesses may have greater challenges. I can't think of a better way to make the Christmas season a happier time this year for our friends and neighbors than to give to those less fortunate.
