Enjoy this week's Mondays with Mundy, produced by the Legacy Foundation. In this week's episode, Historian Jim Mundy discusses the political history of The Union League of Philadelphia. This is the final part of a three part series. Part one was shared on 9-21-2020, and two on 10-19-2020. The Legacy Foundation's mission statement is to inspire and educate League members, students, and the greater community to be engaged and responsible citizens, guided by the United States Constitution and the history and values of the Union League. Knudsen is a Retired Lieutenant Colonel, and author of the recent book by the same title, "The Confederacy’s Most Modern General: James Longstreet and the American Civil War." We understand that there was confusion about the signs installed early this morning on trash receptacles about our exhibit on voting rights. The signs were removed. Please accept our apologies for any misunderstanding. Our exhibit, "Ballot Box: America's Fight for the Vote," is an exhibit on the history of voting rights - and the importance of voting and civic engagement. The exhibit is open the public, Tuesdays and Thursdays, between 3:00pm and 6:00pm and the second Saturday, between 1:00pm and 4:00pm.

The Legacy Foundation is proud to host tonight's Public Affairs program, "Past, Present and Future of the Supreme Court" with two Constitutional Scholars Michael Moreland and Michael Gerhardt will discuss the history of the Supreme Court, President Trump's nomination and what the Supreme Court might look like in the years to come. The program is moderated by Legacy Foundation Executive Director, John Meko. Michael Moreland (Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law) a...nd Michael Gerhardt ( The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) will discuss the history of the Supreme Court, President Trump’s nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, and what the Supreme Court might look like in the years to come. Moreland is University Professor of Law and Religion and Director of the McCullen Center for Law, Religion, and Public Policy at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. Gerhardt is the Samuel Ashe Distinguished Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of North Carolina School of Law. Today, the Legacy Foundation hosts Good Citizen Day! This civics education program brings hundreds of high school students together for discussions on constitutional issues and educates and inspires them to be actively engaged and responsible citizens. The program ends with a presentation of the Union League Good Citizenship Award. As with the rest of 2020, this is a year like no other - this year's program is all virtual. While the program cannot be live broadcast, please enjoy this video to learn more about the Good Citizen Day program.

In this week's episode of the Legacy Foundation's Mondays with Mundy, Historian Jim Mundy discussing the history of the 15th Amendment, and the story of Octavius V. Catto - and the connection and involvement of The Union League of Philadelphia. A 19th century Renaissance man, Catto was a leading scholar, pastor, educator, athlete, and civil rights leader - and he was a great ally of the Union League. The Union League and Catto were leaders in the fight for the passage and enforcement of the 15th Amendment (African American men's voting rights). After a couple of very small openings for a few select groups, the Legacy Foundation is THRILLED to open the latest exhibit on display in the Heritage Center - Ballot Box: America’s Fight for the Vote. The exhibit explores the history of voting rights in the United States. Public hours resume today too, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00pm to 6:00pm and the second Saturday of every month, 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Several safety protocols, including face masks, temperatures, and more, are in place to ensure safety amidst COVID-19. Come visit to learn more!
