We are laden to the ceiling with so many pies after days of baking like Thanksgiving elves - time to pick up your preorders and try your luck at nabbing some walk-in goodies! With the dwindling berry supply, there are only 3 weekends remain for the beloved Mixed Berry Pavlova before they fly south for the season. We want to take a moment to share a brief history behind the Russian ballerina whom this dessert was named in honor of a darling with name that rolls off the tongue in the sweetest tune there can be: Anna Pavlova... Ballet did not come easily to her. Severely arched feet, thin ankles, and long limbs did not go with a small, compact body which was the ideal ballerina form of the time. Without the advantage, she focused on perfecting technique; lived by her mantra, "No one can arrive from being talented alone. God gives talent, work transforms talent into genius. She was a trial-blazer! The first ballerina to tour around the world! Started her own company and always a student of ethnic dances America, Mexican, Japanese, Europe, East India, and anything in between where she could find in her journey. Life is always an ongoing journey of discovery and practicing curiosity. Her work inspired many dancers whom went on to create great things in their niche. A very enterprising and daring act. She toured on her own... for twenty years until her death. She traveled everywhere in the world that travel was possible, and introduced the ballet to millions who had never seen any form of Western dancing." During the post WWI era, it was Pavlova’s special interest to regularly host charity dances to support Russian orphans living in Paris, even to the point of giving her home to be made into an orphanage and education center. A passionate animal advocate as well and a major private sponsor of distressed dancers in London and Leningrad. So beloved, chefs around the world named all kinds of dishes after her, from frog legs to ice cream, and most notably of all, this airy and delicate meringue dessert which best portrays her graceful dancing and versatile style.
