Dear UFCW Local 38 Members, Let me begin by sincerely thanking you. Youand all our UFCW membersare on the frontlines of this unprecedented health crisis. More than ever, you have proven to all that the hard work you do is absolutely essential. I will not pretend these last few weeks have been easy. It has been incredibly difficult and stressful. You are concerned about your health and safety; and that of your loved ones. You have been working harder than ever before. ...You also worry, as we all do, how long will this last. You are not in this alone. Your union at the local and International level is advocating on your behalf with employers as well as elected officials to make sure that your hard work and dedication during this crisis is recognized. We have negotiated emergency pay increases and other immediate benefits with employers in food retail, food processing, and meatpacking all across the United States. We have demanded specific safety actions, such as personal protection equipment, installing barriers, and enforcing social distancing for our members who work closely with the public or each other. Legislatively, we pushed for national economic relief that will provide up to $1,200 for members earning less than $75,000 a year (or $2,400 for a married couple making less than $150,000). UFCW members have been named as essential first responder employees in three states so they can have immediate access to free emergency childcare and other benefits. And we are pushing every other Governor in the country to do the same. Additionally, we obtained 3.5 billion dollars for childcare for essential workers. We have also developed a number of ways to keep UFCW members aware of critical workplace and Coronavirus updates. You can text the word PREPARED to 83071 or visit ufcw.org/coronavirus. We’re also urging all our members to go to UFCW.org and please make your Local rep or steward immediately aware of anyand I mean anyworkplace safety issues. No matter the question or concern, please know that your union is here for you. And, I want you to know, personally, that we are determined to do everything possible to protect you, your family, and all our members. Thank you, remember to text PREPARED to 83071 for more member updates, and please keep yourself and loved ones safe. See more

Calling on Trivium Packaging to do the right thing. UFCW Local 38 would like to thank the following employers, ConAgra, Ryder and Smuckers for recognizing Local 38 Members hard work and dedication on supplying quality products and supporting our communities with a trusted and continuous food supply. When we asked, all stepped up and offered awards and policies to help our members get through this difficult time. The policies and awards show they understand what a critical rol...e they play in keeping the food supply chain running and being on the front line at work every day realizing, being at work can make it more difficult to navigate the hardships and challenges this crisis creates at home. Caring for the well-being of loved ones or looking after an aging family member can become more complicated. Closures of schools and childcare centers can create unplanned needs, expenses and stress. UFCW Local 38 would also like to call on Trivium to do the same. When we first made the calls we asked all of the employers to step up. So far all but one has done so, some a little slower than others but they have stepped up. Trivium still has not done the right thing, SHAME ON THEM!!! Their Values are on their web page. https://triviumpackaging.com/news Our Values 'Trivium' is Latin for three roads coming together. At Trivium Packaging, our success is grounded in 3 foundational pillars: People, Customer and Planet. UFCW Local 38 is asking everyone to go to their webpage and demand Trivium do the right thing for their employees.
