Our friends at Sustain Jail Support - Philly (@sustainjailsupportphl) are making a final push to reach their goal of $75k before Election Day - they are so close! Remember: all funds raised go towards supporting Goldenrod Transportation’s team of Black, formerly incarcerated drivers providing free shuttle-service to safety for anyone being released from prisons located along State Road in Philadelphia. Vox member Imani Roach walks us through the materials and ideas that informed her recent exhibition Old Habits are Harder to Kill Than Love, one of four Vox member exhibitions that were interrupted by the pandemic. Exploring themes of love, loss, mourning and customs both individual and collective, Imani’s exhibition also pays homage to her personal pantheon of Black female performers. Learn more about Imani and her show on the Vox website: https://voxpopuligallery.org//imani-roach-old-habits-are-/ Video shot by Sam Johnson. Thank you to Vox members Lea Devon Sorrentino and Melissa Langer for their work on our video walk-thrus!

Closing Day! It’s been our pleasure to host Embryo IX, a beautiful collection of paintings and installations by guest artist Shanina Dionna (@shaninadionna)! We are hosting drop-in hours today until 6pm, come by and check out her work! And, don’t miss her upcoming mural, presented as part of @streetsdeptwalls ABOUT THE EXHIBITION An annual art testimonial by Shanina Dionna, Embryo helps encourage honest dialogue, civic engagement and solution-based art modalities concer...ning mental health and wellness. The visual and performing arts (acrylic portraits, improv and movement, live music performance, an intentional playlist and botanical therapy contributions) help communicate relief efforts on the stigma and taboo plaguing our communities. Since 2011, the Embryo exhibition series has chronicled the life of Shanina Dionna, a millennial of color, as she exposes and learns from her own mental health and wellness journey. This work is an offering to her community, an invitation to her extended safe space and an opportunity to address personal behavioral health issues. Guests are educated on the state of mental and behavioral health via partnerships with local wellness communities, including a growing relationship with the Department of Behavioral Health & Intellectual disAbility Services of Philadelphia, PA. ABOUT THE ARTIST Shanina Dionna is an award-nominated visual and performing artist, mental health advocate, non-profit youth arts teacher and an expressive arts therapy student based in greater Philadelphia. Since 2011, her Embryo art exhibition series has helped build a platform raising awareness to mental health; currently supported in-part by DBHIDS (the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services). In 2016, she helped found the non-profit Art Buds Philly, currently housed at the Urban Art Gallery in West Philadelphia. More info: shaninadionna.com
