The official minutes from the May 2021 Council Meeting are now online. Question: Why is there a one-month delay in posting official meeting minutes? Answer: Although required by law as a record of government business, meeting minutes are not public record (official) until they are approved by council. ... This approval is to ensure the factual accuracy of information in the public record. Typically, meeting minutes are approved and then made available to the public at a subsequent meeting. MUNICIPAL PRIMARY '21: MAJORITY OF MAIL IN VOTING BY DEMOCRATS To better inform citizens, West Mayfield (and surrounding municipal) voting trends have been posted here since 2012. A detailed report of the numbers will be coming shortly, but new data just released by the county elections board confirm that Democrats continue to take significant advantage of mail in voting by a wide margin over Republicans and nonpartisan voters. In this election, 34% of registered Democrats ...voted compared to 32% Republicans. However, on election day, in-person voting was evenly split, with 84 Democrats and 84 Republicans casting ballots at the polls. While 47% of in-person voting was by Democrats, 47% by Republicans, and 6% independents voted in person, mail in voting was a completely different story. 50 mail in ballots were cast in the borough (22% of the total). Democrats accounted for 84% of the total mail in vote, while only 10% came from Republicans. Independents accounted for 6% of the mail in total. Here's the take away: Considering the past two election cycles, the 2021 municipal primary shows a continuation of a trend. Democrats overwhelmingly prefer mail-in voting in contrast to Republicans. In fact, the over all trend shows that when voter turn out is measured only by in-person voting, Republican turn out surpasses Democrats. But when factoring in mail-in ballots, Democratic voting out performs Republicans.

Resident Wanda Horvath shared this message with the West Mayfield Borough Facebook page at 6:38pm, September 16, 2020: "You cannot force a boro of under 1400 people to recycle..even if you get a grant. Stop wasting time on this, and get our Boro cleaned up..of junk cars, high grass and garbage along the roads. We have had enough. Get the zoning officer to do their job. (I know I won't see THIS post on the site.)" Our response: Hello Wanda, as we say in the disclaimer to... the borough's Facebook page, social media is not an official communication channel between you and your local government. A more direct line to the borough council would be to use the Online Citizens Comment form on the borough website. The council president and secretary are copied on all submissions. Of course, the most direct way you can share your thoughts with your local government is to make your concerns known before council at a public monthly council meeting. Meanwhile, we will make public your post on the borough's Facebook page. https://www.westmayfieldborough.us/commun/citizen-comments/ See more
