Big news from TechOWL's Lending Library! We have expanded our inventory of iPads, computers and gadgets thanks to the Pennsylvania Department of Aging! Check out our inventory! Text of the images: Borrow an iPad, a computer, gadgets and more If you or someone you know: lives in Pennsylvania and... is a senior citizen, or has a disability Your local TechOWL specialist will: Work with you to select the right device. Load the software and apps that you need and want. Support and teach you throughout the process. All devices can be borrowed for 4 weeks with an option for longer. November marks the 28th anniversary AT Awareness Month in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Governor Tom Wolf and Pennsylvania have recognized the importance of the work of Institute on Disabilities at Temple University, College of Education, and continue to support our work and communities that we serve. Here's to AT awareness month 2020 #ATawarenessMonth. The text of the proclamation. ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY AWARENESS MONTH November 2020... WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians with disabilities of all ages may need assistive technology devices and services to live independently and productively, as well as to participate fully in affairs of their communities; and WHEREAS, assistive technology devices and services allow people to work, attend school, play, and live in the community of their choice; and WHEREAS, an assistive technology device is any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities or older citizens; and WHEREAS, assistive technology services are defined as any services that directly assist an individual in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device; and WHEREAS, assistive technology devices and services are not luxury items, but necessities for people with disabilities and older citizens. These tools empower people to control their lives and their futures; and WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a leader in the development and implementation of assistive technology programs of its citizens with disabilities and older residents, through assistance from organizations such as the Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation, providing valuable information and assistance, financial education, and financing for the purchase of assistive technology devices and services. THEREFORE, I, Tom Wolf, Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, do hereby proclaim November 2020, as ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY AWARENESS MONTH. I encourage all Pennsylvanians to become aware of the many ways in which assistive technologies contribute to the health, happiness, and independence of our family, friends, and neighbors.
