I urge you to watch and share this video. My legislation, HB 1885 has passed the Pennsylvania House of Representatives with a vote of 136-55. We must continue to advance this legislation. Sanctuary city policy is dangerous and is in violation of federal law. Although immigration is an important part of our past, present and future it must be done legally and can only be done by the federal government. My bill will hold sanctuary municipalities responsible for their unlawful policies or ensure they reverse those policies to come into compliance with federal law.

I’m happy to report that my legislation to protect police officers and their families when the officer is involved in a discharge of their firearm or other use of force has passed the Senate Law and Justice Committee. It’s now headed to the whole Senate for a vote. Now the Senate has agreed with us. House Bill 1538, which is supported by local Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 5 and the state FOP, would delay police departments from releasing the names of officers involve...d in violent confrontations while an investigation is ongoing. Public officials would be able to release the identifications once the investigation is complete, and criminal charges have been filed or the life of the officer and his or her family members are deemed no longer in danger. This legislation is critical as we’ve seen shootings involving police officers become so politically charged that the officers’ lives and their families can be endangered even if the use of force was justified. While we need transparency whenever police are involved in a shooting, we owe our officers basic protection from threats.

Bipartisan leadership is key When I sponsor legislation, I identify a problem and devise a solution that will help my constituents as well as achieve bipartisan support to become law. Two major bills I have put forward have accomplished this goal. One bill, House Bill 1538, which protects our police officers’ rights to due process if they are involved in a use-of-force incident, has successfully passed the House. The other is House Bill 1885..., which keeps our citizens safe through upholding federal law by forcing our municipalities to not give sanctuary to illegal immigrants who have committed crimes. It will come to a vote soon. I expect my latest bill to also receive bipartisan support. For the last several weeks, I have been working on legislation that will give all employees a better opportunity to negotiate the best salary for their experience level. My bill will prohibit employers from asking job interviewees their previous salaries. This will allow women who have been historically underpaid at their jobs to be offered a new competitive salary based on their experience at a more accurate market rate, as opposed to receiving an offer based on a marginal increase from the low salary they are currently receiving. This legislation will also help men, as they have the same benefit of negotiating on merit versus past salaries. This is a winning situation for all workers. This is a bill Republicans, Democrats and independents can support. This is a bill that will benefit my constituents in Northeast Philadelphia and all across Pennsylvania. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate, as well as the governor, to get this bill into law as quickly as possible. State Rep. Martina White 170th Legislative District

As a woman, I am appalled and disgusted by the recently revealed comments made by Donald Trump, and I strongly condemn this type of behavior. It is unacceptable. Like much of America I have been disappointed at times by both the major party candidates for President, which is why I have never endorsed either. Instead, I remain focused on why you elected me. To do what's best for the people of Northeast Philadelphia and get results that help all of us: Democrat, Republican, Independent, male and female, young and old. That is what I will always continue to do.
