Inspected a prefab fireplace for a customer. Newer house. Never had a chimney inspection. As you can see the pipes are not seated properly and never were since it was built. House was built within the last ten years. This is why it’s important to get a chimney inspection done when buying a new home. Even the new ones can have issues. They could have burned there house down down because some half assed contractor either did this themselves or subbed it out to the lowest bidder and just assumed they did they job right. We actually run into this a lot. Do yourself a favor and get a chimney inspection done.

It’s always a good idea when you’re buying a home to have a chimney inspection done. If it has one. And I don’t mean the home inspection! Most home inspectors have no clue what they’re looking at when it comes to chimneys. Get an actual chimney company to do one. Went to this inspection for a new customer. Never had a chimney inspection done and had been using it for seven years. It was said that it was also cleaned every other year. So I don’t know if that’s true or not but ...if so the previous cleaner should not be doing this work. Shifted tiles in both the fireplace and the heater flue. In the fireplace this allows creosote to get down between the flue tiles and the brick. This is a chimney fire waiting to happen. The heater flue having shifted tiles allows for the oil fired furnace to leak fumes into the house. This fireplace also has a woodstove in it that we refer to as a slammer because it has no liner. We also call them creosote monsters. As you can see in the pics. See more
